Acceleration1 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds
true, it's not the 2004, but didn't the 2004 G55 have the 55k engine that the 2005 has?

so does anyone know how to make the 2004 g55 a little faster.

It looks to me like MB is on the conservative side on the HP and performance times.
On your '04, I would think Renn Tech could help you out with a performance boost.

as i undersrtand it, the torque of the 55k engine isn't used effectively across the models due to their dynamics.
i surmise that power at all four wheels would yield an appreciable performance improvement.
full-time 4-wheel drive on the G notwithstanding, the published performance alone is surprising. the mag numbers strain credulity.
what are your overall impressions of the G55? any notable problems? i heard from a tech advisor that the power windows tend to fail. have you experience with that issue?
looking forward to your reply.
thanks,

I have not timed a 0-60 run in my own G55 but I did have an impromptu encounter with a friend's stock 2002 Vette Auto. I pulled a couple of car lengths on him at the start and held them until about 75mph, the vette then began to make up ground. He could not believe that my "brick on wheels" could run like that. We switched rides and tried a second time with the same results.
The only problems I have had in 4,800 miles is a slight squeak in the dash and an intermittent "SRS" light, both fixed in the same visit to my dealer.

I really only drive the G55 when it is raining, try to drive one of the fun cars on nice dry days. In the rain the all wheel drive is very sure footed.

As soon as my wife's G is broken in,I'll check it on the G-tech,later in the year will take it to Joliet drag strip.
Hopefully Kleemann's mods will improve the #s even more.
(at least no more traction problems)
sorry to digress into fond gastro-recollections. i'm still suffering the ill-effects of something i ate at a catered condo opening party. (good thing i avoided the sushi. LOL.) anything to distract me from the symptoms...
anyway, what are your overall impressions of the G55? what's the handling like? i recall there can be some serious wind gusts in TX. have you driven during any? and if so, then how did it perform?
i'm looking forward to your reply.

Which sport/ute do you think rules the high-end performance segment?
BMW X5 4.8is: 4%
Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG: 15%
Porsche Cayenne Turbo: 40%
Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI: 39%
Thats from motor trend - I dont think there #'s are wrong I do think that there out come is RIGHT!
Porsche dealer told me my Cayenne will do 0-60 5.0 --Stupid fast for any SUV mind you!
If your lookin for FAST *** SUV go with the Porsche. I driven both. No comparison. I love it! Lets not forget that this G-wagen was designed in 1979!! Thing I hate the most--- that you have to slam the doors hard so you can get it to shut properly. Annoying!!
CAYENNE TURBO IS KING!!!!!
///AMG55 - I have driven the Turbo Cayenne also. I had one for a few days as loaner when a 911tt that I had was in the shop. It was nice but the wife and daughters thought it was terribly ugly. However, if you like to arrive in style the G55 is the way to go. The fact that it was designed in 1979 and is still around today only goes to show they got it right. Porsche is working on a redesign of the Cayenne now, maybe the next one will be a little more distinctive.
