G63?
i've read a couple of shorts and some postings elsewhere that engine changes -- 63 and 550 -- might be coming.
my dealer is offering "a great deal" on an MY08 G55 in granite grey. i could continue to wait patiently for a new engine...if one is anticipated.
please let me know your thoughts.
thanks,
dave

ted, i think you're right, if only because there's no economic sense to continue building the 5.5k. otoh, there's not such economic sense to continuing the civilian G, but perhaps that's entirely another matter.

also, G sales numbers are very low and, at least until recent MYs, the warranty service costs i believe were relatively high.
so, although i am admittedly not very well informed, i see little economic sense for retaining the G line but probably significant marketing sense. all of which is just my two cents.
But I somehow can't see the 6.2 in the G. I read somewhere
that they also found the ML63 to not be perfect with that
engine. An 55K on the other hand works very well with the G
and who in hell would want an high revving truck?
unless military and other G versions are sold with the 55 engine -- i recall reading they're delivered with diesels -- what future is there for it? i believe the 55 engine is a goner.
certainly, you must agree that decisions aren't always made based on best use. quite often, they are made based upon best economic sense.
would someone out there know how to calculate the theoretical performance of a G63?
G63? Would there be more people buy this than buying a G55K?
And as you might know the Zonda are still equipped with an AMG engine
that is not available (not by your normal dealer) for other MB models any
more. Thinking about the production numbers although the price could
be very high it shouldn't be very economic either!

i can tell you that i would prefer a 63.
please tell me, is the 55 engine used now only in the SLK55 NA and the G55k?
..........The advantage of a G55 over a G63 in theory is that the 63 engines perform best at higher rev rpm's while the 55K engine is a low end torque monster. For a true track car, a high rev engine may be better, but for a heavy brick house a low end torquey engine is more fun. You are seldom going to be safely driving a 600lb brick house at redline....except straight to prison.
.........yes the 55 engine is currently only available in the SLK55 and the G55. The former is a high compression NA 350HP engine and the later is a lower compression supercharged 500HP engine
Ted
and the SLK uses the 5.5 (similar to the old ML55, no Kompressor)
But SERIOUSLY, what would you do? we're looking into a G and don't know:
assuming a 63 is coming, is the 55K more attractive?
is a non-modified 63 coming to the G, or one with more torque, etc. (G63K???). ----

---> the $110K question(s).
G wagon dont change it's int and ext that often. So even if the G63 comes I think the inside would be about the same.
Anyways I just advice my friend to get a G55k I am hunting a car for myself. I can't afford a brand new S65 therefore looking for a used S65 haha.
So hopefully my friend's dealer can hook me up with one. Since we are getting cars at the same place.
