There are a lot of changes, about as many as came in the 2008 model year. Highlights include:

1. New grill
2. New COMAND system (with hard disk, similar to what's in new SL-class)
3. G500 gets new 5.4L V8, will be called G550 in the US
4. G55 engine tweaked to 507HP
5. G500 gets new rims, same size
6. G55 gets new 19" rims
7. G55 gets new Alcantara headliner standard, option on G500
8. Improved mobile phone interface, bluetooth, and MP3/iPod support.
9. TV tuner now supports DVB-H broadcasts in Europe
10. Harman/Kardon sound system upgraded to Logic7 with number of speakers increased from 10 to 12, power up to 450 watts, DD/DTS 5.1 surround support added, and speed sensitive volume.
11. Ventilated front seats now an option (badly needed in warm countries)
12. Slightly different hood badge
13. New designo leather front seats
14. Tire pressure monitoring now available on SWB and Cabriolet

Whoa....

Imagine those with the 2007 1/2 and 2008's. That's why I hate buying new cars/trucks. Within 6 mths it's already old news.

In a place like Dubai, the 2008 G-Class is so popular that the wait is nearly 18 months to get a new G55. The price is also astronomical, almost US$ 165k. I reserved a 2009 this week and with some haggling have secured a June 2009 delivery, just in time for my birthday.

Once the news of the 2009 updates becomes more widely available, many people will try and delay their orders and the whole situation will become a big mess for the dealers.

Don't see any problems. I am enjoing my '08 G55 right now and when all little issues (and there are allways issues with new stuff) associated with '09 changes will be fixed sometime in MY'10 I will make a swap. Anyway I do not see any reason to whait the whole year for this minor changes.

it never will..because I believe that they will always keep the engine supercharged instead of trying to go naturally aspirated route,

No keyless go or remote start yet? The Alcantara headliner will look great. New command will be nice as well. I thought that 09 would be G63 though. Not that I care much about that engine but resale will be an issue if a 63 comes out the year after you buy a 55. I wish they would either confirm or deny if it will be coming but I can understand why they wont.

why would you want a 6.2 in there. less tq, which you need in a truck and less modability. Also I doubt they'll drop the 55 cause the 6.2 won't be able to tow as well.

The G class will eventually get the 6.3, Merc are trying 2 clear the existing 5.5 SC Engine on the G and SLK..Once the Engines run out,it will b economical 2 equip them with the 6.2l...

Where did you get that information from? The SLK doesn't have the supercharged version of the 5.5. That theory doesn't make sense because all these engines are built by hand and I seriously doubt they've built more than they need..so many so as to go another year with the same engine. The 6.2L V8 makes no sense in the G anyway, the 5.5L SC V8 makes all the sense in the world in the G...torque.

I wouldn't want it but what I am saying is if it did come out it would screw the resale for the previous years 55. I don't think there are enough people "in the know" that would rather have the 55. Most will want the latest and greatest and therefore resale will suffer. Although, compared to the rest of the AMG line up the G55k has been doing extremely well. Most 05's are still in the 60's.

I love the G55K but would worry about it's crash stability and side crash protection given that wifee ferries around our 3kiddos in our SUV.

MB will not put the 63 engine in this truck. it would completely ruin this torquey truck......i will swap my '07 at the end of '09 for one of these, just hope i can reuse all the renntech parts i have on my current one.....re alcantara, i was just in touch with mansory to see if they could manufacture an alcantara roof and "A" pillars for me, i guess there is no need now.

wow!! makes me want a G even more now.....Its funny how the E/CL/S 55's have gone down in price a little but the G55K holds its value.

would the 63 engine make sense if it received turbo treatment?

My mistake abt the SLK.....But it wont make sense for mercedes 2 build 1 engine for 1 series of vehicle, and its a niche vehicle, nt alot of numbers, maybe the G will get the Turboed 63, or the Bi turbo 65...bUt definitely nt gna continu the 5.5l for more than another year.

The AMG engines are built by hand and the development of the 5.5L V8 was paid for years ago so building it in small volumes for the G, SLR and in naturally aspirated form for the SLK doesn't hurt MB in the least. The G is old and it will keep the old AMG engine for the rest of its life IMO. Makes no sense to put the 6.2L V8 or the AMG V12 in it.
