Buy a G55 Stay Alive
I have owned 4 G55's, a 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008. I have driven these vehicles in all conditions over 300K accident free miles until this past Tuesday.
Driving to work early am in heavy traffic the fast lane rapidly slowed to a stop, cars behind me pealed off to the right lane which was still moving. I slowed to a stop checked fwd, right, left, and rear view Holy Shi_ in an instant with no warning my rear view showed a vehicle and BAM! I was hit with tremendous force from behind. Somehow I exited the interstate to the left catapulted by the impact 160 ft to the center median, maintaining control. The driver of the full size van never even put on the brakes I surmise he was going 55 to 60 MPH. My vehicle stopped, it took about a minute to take stock of the situation. I had been hit so hard my seat back was in the full recline position(safety feature to limit whiplash). yet I was still holding the steering wheel (go figure). I found my phone and noticed that afterthought cup holder still cradled my travel cup of coffee (whew). I made my way up to the offending vehicle, and found the driver semi conscious. The drivers vehicle was demolished and he was ultimately airlifted to a local hospital. All I can say is I am absolutely amazed that after such a violent accident I was walking around and went to work that afternoon. Obviously I will get a full checkout as believe me you will feel the effects of such a violent and sudden rear end collision. One hour after the accident I was sourcing a 2009 G55 to replace my 2005.

My Godness!!! Good to hear (read) you're ok.
I had my G55 stolen 2-3 weeks ago. I was not thinking to get another one but I miss it too much and I decided to buy one again.
It's one of a though car, that's for sure. You're the living proof!
Enjoy once again in good health!

Glad you're ok. I am still wondering why the backseat went into a reclined position.

The Mercedes technician stated that the seat does give in an extreme rear end collision to lesson the effect back and neck.

Glad to hear you're ok. The minivan looks like it went through a wall while the G doesn't look too bad, though as Andyman said, I'm sure the frame has been damaged.
The G is one tough SUV! You definitely have to get another one.
