G55 AMG "Edition 79" @ Dubai Motor Show

Special G 55 AMG KOMPRESSOR "Edition 79" model
Exclusively destined for the Middle East, the special G 55 AMG KOMPRESSOR "Edition 79" model is a reference to the sales start of the series in 1979. This 373 kW (507 hp) off-road icon has a particularly large community of fans in the Gulf region – which is the largest sales market for the top AMG model. The "Edition 79" has a highly attractive combination of unique features: the exclu-sivity of this limited edition of 79 off-roaders is immediately made apparent by the "designo magno alanite grey" paint finish. This matt finish is already familiar from the SLS AMG, but is otherwise unavailable for the G-Class. The G 55 AMG KOMPRESSOR "Edition 79" differs from the standard model in having a crash bar at the front, carbon-look side trim strips, 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in a titanium finish and chromed protective grilles for the front indicators, tail lights and the underguard. Carbon fiber doesnt suite the G-class, a unique build would look much better getting out of the range sample for exterior coupled with quilted diamond stitching and so on.
I was going to get one but it costs an outrageous 160usd starting price over here...back then 2-3 years ago I could swear that I can get one for a much more reasonable price of 120-125,000usd during the econ crises early days however now that I've been stung by the econ "bee" aka crises I'll keep it in stocks, real-estate and deposits...its a terrific car but now that there is lots on the road and price increase its not really worth it; I'll guess I'll enjoy what I've got and be thankful for what I have.
Now 2 years later, the G-class is dime a dozen in Kuwait city, where its owners are mostly 18-23 years of age...most commonly females drive the G-class...which basically is a status symbol to show off rather than pure "interest" in the cars design and history.

Doesn't do it for me, the carbon fiber and chrome are too much for my taste. I'm sure others would disagree. It's nice though to see MB give some recognition to their biggest market for the G. It would be nicer if they get the prices here to match US prices though

You are quite right about the current demographic of the G owners in Kuwait. It's very unfortunate. Being in my mid 30's, I get really weird looks from youngsters when I drive it around in Kuwait.

Its not for me, i saw one and didnt like it at all. I've got a Cayenne S with carbon interior now that I like but on the g-class its a big no no for me.

It can be done locally. I absolutely hate the 09-2010 rims the old grey ones on the 2008 was "perfect" the deep dish look complemented the extended fender flares nicely.

I am going to wait a couple of years before I do get a G-class, it will be an AMG just not with the exterior look. I want it to be done like the GV12 Brabus with a designo interior and stock engine.

Both the interior and exterior carbon fiber trim (some of it is real carbon fiber, some is just meant to look like it) has been available for some time from the AMG Performance Studio. Usually, these need to be installed by AMG in Germany after the car is produced in Austria, but perhaps they could also be ordered and installed by your dealer depending on which country you live in.

Jimmy It would be hard to get hold of CF for the side stripes, trust me ...I want a AMG logo gearknob through AMG performance studio and they wont give it to me unless I ship my car to AMG.

The easiest way to get it done in carbon fiber would be to ship it to companies that do custom carbon fiber works like MaCarbon (www.macarbon.com)
I was going to have my 1st G55 interior trim converted to carbon fiber with them. They do better job than OEM.
They recently did a Bentley interior and I can tell you that it looks better than stock.

I just had one section replaced under warranty by my dealer here in Dubai because the old adhesive had started to weaken. It's just a strip of rubber that has a carbon fiber look rather than real CF.
