Heated steering wheel on G63

So who here has the heated steering wheel option in their G63? Where is the switch for the heater? On the wheel itself?

Reason for me asking was that my car came without the heated steering wheel option and I was told it wasn't possible to retrofit it. I hated the crappy piano wood wheel so my second choice was a regular leather wheel without heat but I was told this too wasn't available either.

My 3rd choice would be to install a all leather wheel from the 2013 ML63. Looks the same to me as the G63 wheel, all buttons are the same and even the airbag is the same, but I was told this too wasn't an option as the ML63 wheel won't fit the G63.

I think I am just getting the run around by my dealer after they deposited my money.

Anyone has any idea?

If it's like the G55, the control is a small stalk on the left hand side of the wheel..turn the end of the stalk and it switches the heat on...

Check your owners manual to confirm location of switch on G63...

Not sure why it can't be retrofitted...

I have the heated wheel on my G63 and the switch is where RBYCC says it is.

Hmm, that would be bad news for me, that means it's not a simple swap for heated wheel, needs a new column plus stalk.

I guess I will be getting a non-heated leather wheel then.

I would think the column is the same and has provision for the stalk.
Merc typically has harnesses installed in every car for every option as it's the optimum production situation.

Log on to EPC and see if there is any difference in the steering column part number assemblies between heated and non heated wheel.

Saying it "can't be retrofitted" is a bold statement... it's not like the entire steering shaft is different for the headed steering wheel. It's just a 12V plug (that's probably already there) and a switch.

Time to get a new SA while you're at it.

Think my dealer is screwing with me, parts guy say I can't order a ML63 wheel without a ML63 VIN. For obvious reason my VIN is NOT a ML63. And the non-heated leather G63 wheel is NOT orderable. WTF!!

just find someone with an ML63 and call your service department and give them the vin.

My friend wanted carbon ceramic brakes for his SLS
so i gave him my VIN of my SLS and it was fine

Not "screwing' with you just doing their job.
If you don't know the part number then they must ask for the VIN.
If you know the part number you just order by the part number.
Go to the EPC, enter your VIN and look up the part numbers for the available steering wheels.

If all that is available for the G63 is heated leather then just order the heated G63 wheel.
I'm beginning to think that the heated wheel is standard on the G63 except if you order the trim package with the all wood wheel which can't be heated.

Heated leather or unheated wood, all G63 steering wheels are interchangeable.

If it's just for parts, go on cars dot com and get a VIN there. Here are some:

VIN: 4JGDA7EB0DA141499

VIN: 4JGDA7EB6DA151275

VIN: 4JGDA7EB5DA110829

Odd that this would be an option on a 150k vehicle.

It's only an option since you have the option of an all leather steering wheel with heated leather; or a wheel with wood and leather that does not have a heated leather wheel. You can't have both on the current model G wagons.

I have it on mine and can attest to the fact that it is of limited use when only 30% of the wheel has heat. It's also a little flakey as a feature in the combo wood/leather. It doesn't always work that well.

The heated portion is where the leather is and that's usually the location of the driver's hands.
I find it works very well in my G55K

Since I need a new stalk in addition to the wheel if I want heated and no even sure if the car is pre-wired for the new stalk, I have decided to go with a straight leather wheel, somehow the dealer wants $2700 for the wheel only. I am sourcing one from the states instead.

Looks like we're split on the usefulness of the feature. I find the heat is predominant located at 8 and 4 on the steering wheel. 9/3 & 10/2 are probably the more common positions for hand placement.

The heat output where the leather is located is fine although the top sections where your thumb and palms would rest naturally are not as warm as the section between the two spokes of the wheel where I suspect the heating elements are primarily located.

Point is, a full leather heated wheel is far more functional.

You'll always get generic "can't do it" responses from dealers but MBenzNL can make this happen. I got my ventilated front seat retrofit kit from him and I couldn't be happier with the install process and ease of getting all parts necessary. I'm sure he can help you out with this heated wheel situation with all of the correct parts. Best of luck!
