Brake Rotor Change #6

My ‘19 G63 ED 1 now required rotor replacement 6 AFTER the OEM originals. Car has 51k miles on it. Always wharped and I drive it like Fernando Alonso I am told by Mercedes of Greenway here in Houston. I drive it normally and my suspicion is that the rotors are faulty design with the wrong alloys for this vehicle.

can anyone recommend an independent brake or german non Greenway dealer to address this please?

thanks

If you drive like a F1 driver who legitimately brakes with his left foot, you might try adapting to your right foot. Have 6 sets of rotors required 12 sets of pads?

I do not drive the car excessively rough so this was just an attempt to avoid the issue on their part. I do believe they replaced the pads and the point is that this seems to be a recurring issue with these vehicles.

This vehicle has also gone thru 4 windscreens.

After owning a C63, E63, GTS (which had tranny issues and I swapped it out for a Macan), I am also having injector issues witha ‘21 GTS Black Series so I am on the verge of abandoning the brand altogether as the company has changed drastically (the fit and finish of the 15 or so loaners are utter garbage).

if anyone in the Houston area knows of a different/better dealer than Greenway/Autonation or better yet a very good independent mechanic I would appreciate the advise. The car runs out of warranty in 6 months.

thanks all!

I'm at about 26K miles on my '19 G550, but it does have different pads, calipers and rotors than the G63. I did my B service about 2 months ago, and the brake (all original) specs were:
Front pads - 9mm (12mm new)
Rear pads - 9mm (12mm new)
Front rotors - 31.7mm (right) / 31.5mm (left) (32mm new)
Rear rotors - 21.7mm (right) / 21.4mm (left) (22mm new)

But I drive like an old man ('cuz I am). I've had my windshield replaced once, about 3 years ago. A tiny stone nicked it and it split top to bottom within 2 miles. My Rubicon has 3 huge stone pits in it, but refuses to crack. The MB glass is extraordinarily fragile (and expensive!).

See you had an SL, I still own one, a 2003 which has been plagued with issues. I haven't driven it in 5+ years due to the hydraulic lift system leaking. Also, the last time I drove it, when I applied the brakes, the fly by wire system computer failed and the brakes did nothing. After safely going across three lanes of traffic using the gas pedal and hand brake to get over to the side of the road, I haven't driven it since.

I am enjoying my G63 but will sell it before the warranty runs out. MB vehicles are not ones to own naked, that's for sure.

Thanks for the input. The warranty expires 3/26 so I am getting rid of it because MBZ USA will not stand behind defective design flaws and cannot have another 23 service calls on 1 vehicle. Insane and sad to see the company decline in the manner it has because I've supported them for over 20 years with their vehicles, 8 times at the driving academy, and all sorts of other things but they need a corporate overhaul from the top down.

I’m experiencing the same with my ‘23 G63. I’m on my 3rd brake job. Something has to be defective. I’ve never needed brake jobs this frequently.

Correct. Because MBZ has not backed the vehicle and, over time, continue to not support their own product and are building vehicles with horrific fit and finish I am dumping the behicle and de-branding from MBZ altogether after owning 8 of their vehicles. Replaced a GLE and GTS with Porsches and just ordered yet another to replace this moneypit. Holding onto a 21 Black Series for now but MBZ the group (manufacturing, customer care, and racing) has gone down the toilet.

keep count of your mileage on the rotor replacements like a hawk cuz they have clocked me on time and forced me to cover the full rotor replacements (they also clocked me on the Black Series with 1200 miles on it extending a factory warranty that I missed by 2 weeks).

good luck with these morons
