Finished 1969 280se coupe

After 27 years of sitting and rotting!

Back seat floor pan

Rust was EVERYWHERE!!!

Old wood and leather

New walnut wood all around

Complete 2 years later.
Hey Guys
Well my Father and I have finally got her finished for the most part and she came out fantastic I think! It was a long fun process and was well worth it after all said and done.
This car has been in our family since the 80's and has not been running and on the road in 27 YEARS!!!

Outstanding project, congratulations on the beautiful results. Any videos of the exhaust sound? Did you do a restoration on the engine, drivetrain and chassis?

Sorry no video clips.
We had the body restored form top to bottom. As you can see the was rust EVERYWHERE! After paint I wet sanded and buffed/polished the car and spent about 60+ hours in doing so to make it have a mirror like finish. Then we put all the original chrome and everything else back on the exterior of the car. In the interior we did the dash leather, new wood, new carpets and new headliner. The leather seats are the originals in pretty descent shape still.
We also replaced almost the entire brake system form front to back. The fuel system was the tough one especially since the gas in the tank sat for 27+ years and was a disaster! We rebuilt the fuel pump. professionally cleaned the tank, replaced some lines, replaced the injection pump and cleaned all the fuel injectors. Then with lots of luck and love got her moving again. We replaced the oils and stuff and is in really good condition with 98,000 original miles. For the most part she will end up being a garage queen.
The real reason I restored the car was for my personal memories I had when I was younger as a teenager and all that stuff. I use to love restoring cars and wanted to dust of my old skills and see what happened. Glad I did. Not to say it really made my Mom happy to see her old car back to her former glory. She said I could have it after all said and done.
Thanks for looking!
Now we have our eyes out looking for maybe a 190SL or a huge S600.

Congratulations on the terrific results you have achieved restoring this handsome vintage Benz. Do I understand your comment correctly that the wood dash components are new and not the original components refurbished?

Yes I bought the new parts on ebay instead of having all my wood redone.

That looks so awesome! I have always wanted to (have this done) to a 50's model MB of some sort, but with modern drivetrain/wheels etc. Maybe someday!
