Personally an AMG is just that, modified by AMG. If you need to have an AMG badge on your car to feel better about yourself, I feel sorry for you.

So, did you buy the car for yourself, or are you trying to prove something someone else? As for me, I modify my cars for me. The way I want them and to what suites my tastes. If it doesn't appeal to someone else, so be it. It was not built for them. Do I sport any badge other than the factory - NO. Would a badge make it a better car - NO. Would a badge make me a better person - NO.

It has been said most eloquently "We don't need no stinking badges."

The views here do not represent, or are they endorsed by, this forum, Mercedes Benz or anyone else but me. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

C32AMG
how about a different kind of re-badging

I removed the "V6 kompressor" badges and added an emblem to the trunklid, just to the right of the "C32" emblem. The new badge is the same as one that's on the tailgate of my 300TD.Personally, I think some of you folks take this subject WAY too seriously.Let someone put whatever they want to on their own cars...after all,it
is their own to customize as they feel.Freedoms of that sort are what this country is all about,so get used to it.
And especially for some owners of factory AMG cars, the whining some of you are doing is really immature. The more "fake" AMG's there are running around, the better for those of us that like to exist just off the radar screen.SO WHAT if someone in a different make/model of car blows the doors of an AMG poseur?.Eventually they run into somebody like me,who looks relatively innocent, and then has their *** handed to them on a plate.
Last of all, there's a long-standing tradition in Europe:rebadging AMG cars with all sorts of things from slower Mercedes.

Thumbs down Imitators

Nothing irritates me more as a car guy, than seeing an AMG or M sport type logo on what's obviously a lesser model. Anyone who will truly appreciate the car will know right away that it's an imposter. Funny how more often than not, it is a young guy, who was probably previously driving a Honda Civic with a tacked on V-tech sticker who can now afford a used 300E and put ugly wheels and an AMG logo on(Gee that MUST be a $160k Hammer!)
I'm not as dumb as your girlfriend or the guys you work with at Mickey Dee's. I can see that you don't have a factory body kit, or sport seats, larger wheels or even the logo on the correct side of the trunk! Be happy that you have a wonderfully engineered, extremely safe automobile that your friends will already be jealous of. I'll already respect you for the car you chose.

Guess what i saw, a 5-Series, M5 kit, M5 rims, M5 everything except the quad exhaust and badge.

I liked this guy, he had a nice sounding exhaust and the 540i Badge. No renaming here, just pure pride in his car. Nice!

You say that "Nothing irritates me more as a car guy, than seeing an AMG or M sport type logo on what's obviously a lesser model."...so then,if a lesser model's badge is on an AMG or M sport type,do you mean that your pants will get tight?.I'd better keep you away from mine!.

Talking more imitators

How long will it be before we're watching an episode of "Cribs" and some rapper is showing off their new Maybach and there's an AMG logo on the trunk?!

Talking Not a hater

Steve-

My point was just that you have people who are trying to be something they're not, to show off or to impress others. Why wear a fake Rolex? For the image would be my guess, trying to appear as being richer and more powerful(engine or otherwise) than you really are. It comes across as insecurity.
I think it's fine if you want to put a 300SD emblem on your S600, because obviously it would be for the stealth and or humor factor. If you thnk you'll get much respect from your peers by trying to pass off a 190E as a C43, or a 528e as an M5, good luck. Personally I would've just removed the original badges and had people guess what was under the hood.

I feel that a favorite saying of mine, "It ain't bragging if you can go out and do it" really applies here.

So what kind of car do you have and what did you badge it?

I am not against people badging their car with the AMG logo, IMO its nothing to fuss over, as long as there is no "E55" or S55" on the trunk of an E320 or S320 AMG badging is fine by me. But if someone has an S55 and badges it S430 for kicks and to see the expression on the faces of others when you leave them in the dust.....well thats just plain stupid.

If you wanted an S430 then buy an S430.

I agree with Lobster, why wear a fake rolex? to project something you are not..... same thing with cars, but men will be men and until AMG or BRABUS or whatever restricts sales of their badges, we will never see the end of it.

Oh and i heard that 310motoring is "tuning" a number of maybachs for their highline clientele. What the hell kind of tuning? Lowenhart tuning

It's a C32

with a "diesel" emblem on the trunklid.Lots of fun at the dragstrip,
and it really annoys M3 owners when they think it's a slower car and then find out otherwise.Where's that S600 that I'm supposed to own?...

When I was in Taiwan, if the car comes factory with AMG rims only, the dealership would have an AMG badge on it. Maybe it's the same with all asian countries?

You are absolutely right narci.

This forum is mainly used by MB owners from the US. Their options and specifications are quite different to the rest of the world.

I made a point earlier in the forum about MB's having been badged at the factory because of the sport package installed.

I think an AMG badge justifies a car which had an AMG sport kit installed. However, what justifies the engine and all is the badge on the left.

There was a time in the early 90's when MB Germany would badge their 300 CE - 24 and 300 E - 24 and 300 SL - 24 with AMG badges because they would install the body kit.

An AMG badge is deserving anything Mercedes themselves deem worthy of placing it on.

I'm not trying to start a fight, but I will say I'm more of a BMW fan than a Mercedes fan. I will also say that, I said this in another post too, the only post 2000 model Mercedes worth owning better say AMG on it or you better have paid over $90,000 for it. What I want to know is why no one seems to have mentioned, specifically Accord, an M5? Are you AMG owners scared? Just curious...

Funny you should say that, but i'm not surprised! This is a worldwide forum my friend, so dont be too narrow!

I've got a CLK320 AMG and i've paid over $90,000 for it! Why? Cause our currency is linked to yours, and when your $ slumps, so does ours! Secondly, we get better, more optioned and more powerful cars that you do, so we naturally pay more for them!

So, is my 2000 CLK320 AMG worth being mentioned? Based on your criterias, i would say YES!

Cheers mate!
