i'd say the w202, just a guess tho...cuz the c-class is almost the best-selling cuz of low-price, and the economy was very solid when the w202 was out

hmm i think it would be the w203, apparently MB just recently finished production with 650,000 units made

The W203 doesn't even come close. The model with the highest production numbers would have to be around the early 80's when the design life of a model was longer than the average 6-7 years todya.
