not that there's anything wrong with an LS, i know i'd take one if somebody offered to give it to me, but the people that i see most often driving them are usually @$$e$. i mean just today, sitting at a light, the guy kept revving his engine and wanting to race and flooring it every time the light turned green. i didn't feel like getting my @$$ handed to me today, so i didn't race, but he did it at all 3 red lights we were at. argggggggghhhhhhh!. sorry, had to vent.

The LS430 is so '90s. I very rarely see one around So Cal. For the money, I would rather have the E500 even if my local Lex dealer offers free car washes now.

Lexus, with the cheap plastics and horrible leather...no thanks. I'll take European before I spend that much on Jap.

Hmm, I guess the article was wrong, and people really do prefer Mercedes. You guys should write to JD Powers and tell them how wrong they are.

I think the european aversion to cup holders cost them all sales. When I picked my car up, the sales lady showed me the cup holder and said "Thank goodness they finally put a decent cup holder in". I think one of the reasons the Japanese do so well is that they give people what they want, and good value. If people want cup holders and cd players, give it to them, don't do what Mercedes does and put cassette players in the cars and make people pay 1000.00 for a changer. Cassette players are so 90's well, actually 80's and 70's. People also like cars that are reliable and don't need to be taken to the shop all the time. Reliability goes a long way towards making people happy. Most people will trade some of the high tech stuff for reliability. Mercedes seem to do the opposite. Although, my problems have all been with the the manual trans. Not exactly high tech.

I'd rather have my Benz in the shop 5 days a month than to drive a Lexus that isnt in there 5 days a decade.

...you've got to be joking...cars were meant to be driven by thier owners, regardless of make. If my merc becomes that bad...I wouldnt think twice; damn the loyalty...

Well the Lexus thing is more of a personal bias... if M-B got that bad I'd dump it and get an Audi.

um, this is an exaggeration, right? there is no way i'd want any car that's going to be in the shop 5 days/month.

imo, lexus makes excellent cars. the IS430 is going to be a pretty killer car.

Yes its an exaggeration, but I think I might want to consider public transportation before a Lexus

i have a Lex, and i just got a new toyota.

but i must admit, MB has more "charisma" and it looks "good"

Import
We're on our third LS (wife's car) having owned each of the three incarnations. Each has been a better automobile than the last, quite a remarkable feat. Interestingly, the one thing about the 430 my wife isn't overwhelmed with is its appearance - she considers it too Mercedes-ish!!!

if/when it happens to you, you wouldn't be thinking the same way....for the 3rd time this month I'm taking my car in - this time all the drivers switches are screwed...windows/seats/etc...plus when I got in to drive it to the shop...SRS WARNING VISIT WORKSHOP !!!

guess where I'm going right after I pick it up ??? LEXUS !!!!

I didn't pay $40K+ to drive a car with these kind of problems.

Looks, LS does not stand out at all, just boring

IMO, the LS is one of the most bland looking cars out there. It is not aggressive, not smooth, just big, fat, and plain. It is so cheap and Toyota looking. The new BMW 7-Series is controvertial because it is a little extreme in some areas, but at least it isnt't completely boring and has an original design.

You'd think that Mercedes was paying him to drive his C230K!

Ok I didnt literally mean what I said, the point I was trying to make was that I would rather have a Benz and have a few problems than a Lexus that has no problems.

Oh , I understand your point, but don't be so rough. Try to be more objective. I love my Benz and all, but until they pay me to drive their product, I'll keep my eyes open to everything on the market!

By the way, what part of town are you and which dealership do you prefer?

Ok

I am in Buckhead and get service at RBM, but we dont buy from any of the local dealers. (no discount at all!). Instead we bought at Jack Ingram Motors in Montgomery.

The LS430 is as exciting as the old S-class.

It looks like a copy of the old S:

It looks like a TANK!

hey, i we have the last body style S-class, 98 S320 LWB, although for its weight it has no power, the sheer power that is the sight of that tank is great. nobody has ever cut me off when driving that thing

CLK430, RX300
I know that this is a MB forum, and although I love my CLK, I would never think about trading in my RX300 for an equivalent ML... Each car is great for its usage.

Without going into a "comparison review" of the 2 cars, my dealership gives me a ML320 as a loaner car everytime I bring in my CLK for service; after driving the ML around for a few days, all I can say is that I'm glad I got the RX300 instead of the ML320.

Although I think the GS300 is a great car (I prefer the "softer" gas pedal of the GS over the stiffer MB style pedals), and was definately impressed with its 0-60 performance when I drove around my friend's GS one night, the (IMO) slower acceleration speed of a "broken-in" Lexus engine is what had me looking at BMW and MB for my "weekend toy" (to clarify, when I got my RX, I had to look down periodically to make sure I wasn't going past 90 mph as soon as I got on the highway, now, it takes a bit of effort to get to 80 mph - that kind of scared me.)

One thing I've always thought was that certain manufactures have their "qualities", depending on what you look for, there's a car to suit everybody's tastes. IMHO, Lexus are GREAT cars all around, especially with the Japanese reliability (I'm sure most of you people have Sony TVs, VCRs, etc. because of their reliability right?) MB are GREAT cars too, for their engineering, raw power, looks, class, etc. All I'm trying to say is that Lexus (how the hell do you pluralize Lexus???) are good cars overall; some people might prefer them over German cars, some may prefer German cars over the Lexus, but credit should be given where deserved. Its really sad to hear "glorified Toyota"... does that mean the MBs are now "glorified" Chryslers? (actually, it should be Chryslers are cheap MBs)

My $.02...

talkin bout lexus vs benz

the s-class is outta mah dads mind now.. hate HATE the service given to us for the sl.. u'd think they (the dealership) would try to please someone who actually had in mind a g55 and s600.. but naw.. its all good.. they'll just trash us.. lol

so i told my dad bout the ls500 and now he's like THAT THE CAR (sedan wise) that we are gonna get to replace the ls400.. bleh

i need yall's help.. and saying the v12 won't work cuz my dad doesn't care about power.. its mainly about service and reliability..
