Lexus schools Mercedes again
well, actually 80's and 70's. People also like cars that are reliable and don't need to be taken to the shop all the time. Reliability goes a long way towards making people happy. Most people will trade some of the high tech stuff for reliability. Mercedes seem to do the opposite. Although, my problems have all been with the the manual trans. Not exactly high tech.

I'd rather have my Benz in the shop 5 days a month than to drive a Lexus that isnt in there 5 days a decade.
imo, lexus makes excellent cars. the IS430 is going to be a pretty killer car.
i have a Lex, and i just got a new toyota.

but i must admit, MB has more "charisma" and it looks "good"
oh well......maybe wen mb comes out with new stylish models...i might be "conned" to buy one again...hehehe

if/when it happens to you, you wouldn't be thinking the same way....for the 3rd time this month I'm taking my car in - this time all the drivers switches are screwed...windows/seats/etc...plus when I got in to drive it to the shop...SRS WARNING VISIT WORKSHOP !!!
guess where I'm going right after I pick it up ??? LEXUS !!!!
I didn't pay $40K+ to drive a car with these kind of problems.

By the way, what part of town are you and which dealership do you prefer?
Without going into a "comparison review" of the 2 cars, my dealership gives me a ML320 as a loaner car everytime I bring in my CLK for service; after driving the ML around for a few days, all I can say is that I'm glad I got the RX300 instead of the ML320.
Although I think the GS300 is a great car (I prefer the "softer" gas pedal of the GS over the stiffer MB style pedals), and was definately impressed with its 0-60 performance when I drove around my friend's GS one night, the (IMO) slower acceleration speed of a "broken-in" Lexus engine is what had me looking at BMW and MB for my "weekend toy" (to clarify, when I got my RX, I had to look down periodically to make sure I wasn't going past 90 mph as soon as I got on the highway, now, it takes a bit of effort to get to 80 mph - that kind of scared me.)
One thing I've always thought was that certain manufactures have their "qualities", depending on what you look for, there's a car to suit everybody's tastes. IMHO, Lexus are GREAT cars all around, especially with the Japanese reliability (I'm sure most of you people have Sony TVs, VCRs, etc. because of their reliability right?) MB are GREAT cars too, for their engineering, raw power, looks, class, etc. All I'm trying to say is that Lexus (how the hell do you pluralize Lexus???) are good cars overall; some people might prefer them over German cars, some may prefer German cars over the Lexus, but credit should be given where deserved. Its really sad to hear "glorified Toyota"... does that mean the MBs are now "glorified" Chryslers? (actually, it should be Chryslers are cheap MBs)
My $.02...
the s-class is outta mah dads mind now.. hate HATE the service given to us for the sl.. u'd think they (the dealership) would try to please someone who actually had in mind a g55 and s600.. but naw.. its all good.. they'll just trash us.. lol
so i told my dad bout the ls500 and now he's like THAT THE CAR (sedan wise) that we are gonna get to replace the ls400.. bleh
i need yall's help.. and saying the v12 won't work cuz my dad doesn't care about power.. its mainly about service and reliability..
