Breaking In - AMG's

Interesting thing I found when reading the new 2003 CL55 AMG manual. This is the first time I have seen this in a Mercedes owners manual, however, there is a section under operation called "Additional instructions for AMG vehicles". It states:

During the first 1000 miles (500km) do not exceed a speed of 85 mph (140 km/h).

During this period, avoid engine speeds above 4500 rpm in each gear.

Interesting...... This should start a new debate.

That is just probably the safety procausions, that they want a person to take when driving a new car so that they do not have any problems in the future. Im Sure that is the way every new car should be driven, not just a mercedes!!!

Remember that there a more components that need to be broken in besides an engine. Transmissions, supercharges, etc. all need some mechanical breakin to an extent.

HHmm that really is interesting. Guess it sounds more like the break in period for the supercharger itself.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
My manual 2002 refers to the first 1,000 miles:

"The car is to be driven at moderate speeds - engine and automobile."

That seems way more conservative than "not to exceed 85 mph."

Maybe for a German, 85 mph IS conservative!
