I've never had a significant problem with VIP. They're not really dependable when it comes to time (if they say they will be there at 2:00PM, they will be there at noon or at 4:00 ... not 2:00) but the cars always arrived in great condition.

Do you have a link or contact info for VIP?

I've used Angels Transport numerous times. They have been good to deal with. They are basically just a broker hiring out subs, but still they are relatively inexpensive and they get the job done. Just request that they do not use Pioneer.

transporters

bought my first benz ~sight unseen~ and had it shipped from Seattle to Dallas. The process of hiring a transporter was more overwhelming than buying a car I hadn't laid eyes on...

pick up was a day late, but arrival was right on time (don't know how they managed that). It took 7 days for delivery. The driver was great and I met him at a relatively unused large parking lot for the unload...too difficult to do that on a residential street.

The company gave me the driver's name & phone so I called him the day it was due for delivery to get an ETA.

What I learned...most companies are brokers & they get paid upfront with your credit card and then you pay the driver cash or money order. I paid cash. I got a dozen phone calls and emails from companies wanting my business...I had to set up a spreadsheet to manage the details & pick a company. All went well.

Lamance Transport in Athens, TN. A great little company I've used 5 or 6 times. Enclosed carriers, great drivers who will communicate their location and ETA to you. If they're hauling a car out to CA they'd love to have yours for the return. Call Janet 423-745-9603

I have used both Fedex Auto Transport and Horseless Carriage to ship my car from Chicago area to Florida. Both companies ship the car in an enclosed semi trailer and each carrier delivered my car in spotless condition. Their prices are also within a few dollars of each other, currently about $1300 to ship my SL600 from Chicago to Naples. I found Fedex more reliable in showing up prior to the day I fly to or from Florida (they have a lot more trucks)...I usually give them a 5 day window to pick up the car prior to my departure date. The Horseless Carriage driver called a 3 days before my flight to Florida promising to pick my car up the day before my departure. On the day he was to pick up the car, he called to say he was rerouted up to Wisconsin and could not pick my car up until 2 days later. At the last minute I had to run my car up to the Mercedes dealer and ask them to hold my car for pickup. Then the driver showed up 10 minutes before the dealership closed for the night causing the service manager to stay late. That was the last time I used HC. I now use Fedex exclusively. TwinCam

I've used the following companies and all three have been incredibly great to work with. They all use enclosed transport and are very careful with the vehicles they transport.

- Intercity Lines
- Horseless Carriage
- Fed Ex

I found the pre and post shipping inspections by Intercity Lines to be a bit tougher though. But again, I have used all three and all three have been great

Coincidentally, I will be shipping a car I am buying from Lexington to Southern California in the next week or 2. Went to transportreviews.com. Read good reviews on Direct Express Auto Transport and Frank's Auto Shipping. Direct quoted $750 uncovered and $1,350 covered via website. Have never done this before. Was thinking of seeing if I can shrinkwrap the thing. Let's compare notes.

shrink wrap...funny. But if you shrink wrap it, then you would have to cover it in aluminum foil so the shrink wrap didn't get exposed to direct sun and stick to your paint job. So, it's possible. It'd look like a giant baked potato rolling across I-40.

But, it'd be hell on the transporter every time he had to move your car around the trailer to load and unload his payload.

I recently used Autoline Transport ship my car from CA to Tx and they actually sell the vehicle protection wrap. It was mailed to me and I wrapped the car myself. Worked really well and save me some money instead of shipping using an enclosed car hauler.

here is there site www.autolinetransport.com
