Need advice on resale value of this 1991 2D Mercedes 500sl

I have a friend of mine looking to sell his low mileage car. It has about 32K original miles on it and in great shape. The kicker here is that it's a 5 speed manual stick shift and inline 6 engine. I was told there are only 200 of these made?

I don't have pictures yet.

Believe that it must be a Euro car. From what I have been told no std trans cars were imported. That makes it a gray market car which was a popular thing to do at that time to save a few dollars. Gray market cars do not sell well nor do they bring a good price.

interesting. I did some research and it appears that MB didn't have any inline 6 with a standard tranny in the 500SL version. How do you know if the car is a grey market car?

What is the amount you are looking for before getting an evaluation on the car? I know someone who may be interested but will need pics asap.

First its not a 500SL as the 6 cyl cars had a different number in the designation. Someone had to change the emblems. Second as I recall they did make a 6 cyl version but only with auto trans in the US, so, thus it must be a euro car where std trans was available. Has to be a gray market car for this reason. Perhaps some dealer would be able to track its origin using the VIN numbers.

Okay guys, I found out this mystery. The person who introduced me to this person doesn't know his *** from his elbow. Kind of pissed off a little because of all the research I am doing on the car and it boils down that he told me it was a 500SL but actually it's a 300SL with low miles and standard transmission. Inline 6 with 5 speed transmission. With that being said, it appears that it's a rare combination car with low miles. I will be taking some pictures on Monday and I will post them up. From what I am told it's in pristine condition and low miles.

Could be pristine and low miles but I still believe it is a gray market car. That means half assed conversion to us specs including emmissions and safety items. Parts are a bit different also thus it could be a problem to support this SL. From what I understand there were no std trans cars legally imported inrto the US by Mercedes.
