A bucket on wheels
stick or auto?

after reading a post in generals on manual or auto, i decided to poll the board so if you would not mind,
if there was an option to have a manual tranny on all mercedes, would you have ordered your car with it? also please feel free to open this up for discussion if you feel mercedes should not make it an option or you wouldn't get a manual tranny.

i am going to average out the stats to see whats the majority's vote in mbworld

Auto trannies are more efficient. Triptronic is a good compromise.

Manual trannies and hand held phones belong in the museum with buggy whipps.

Triptonic is a good compromise but still not enough for the racing enthusiast. It's a lot different having a full shifter and a clutch under your foot controlling the cars every shift. Very exhilarating. I would love a stick in my W210...

I would absolutely love a stick in my W202! If there was one available, I definitely would have gotten one. I drove a fully loaded 1993 Nissan Maxima SE with a five speed for three years and loved every minute of it. It had a DOHC, 24 valve V6 in it with 190HP and about 200 ft./lbs. of torque, which is about the same as the 95 C 280 I drive now. So I get misty eyed every time I think about what it would be like if it a had 5 speed in it! I do agree that a tiptronic is a good compromise, but I would rather have a clutch and gear shift.

If I'm the driver then I want to drive it! I love the involvement of a manual WITH a clutch. I would not have bought my 190E had it not been a manual. It was an inexpensive way back into a manual that still wore a 3 pointed star. For the family wagon though, the auto makes sense. I don't think I would be comfortable with the wife driving it in a manual. I wouldn't mind if the SLC was a manual though!

If I knew how to drive a stick then I'd probably go for it.
