Service history

it seems to be my luck that I *never* get the service history when I buy a vehicle lol

I was wondering would the dealer be able to provide me their service history? I'm just not sure if this is a reasonable request, so I'd rather ask here than sit on hold just to potentially get a no.

It is a reasonable request. Although some people report challenges, I've never been unsuccessful in obtaining a vehicle service history from a dealer. If there is an argument, it's usually that they can't divulge the name/address of the previous owner, but all they have to do is redact that information before giving you the file. I find that it's generally easier to obtain from a service advisor than from a salesperson.

Thanks, I called and was able to get some info from my local dealership, car was from another state. for some reason, it seems I need call the one where the work was done to get everything. (only some of the info is shared perhaps). thankfully I found the owners card still in the manual case

You shouldn't have to call the specific dealer who did the work (unless it was done by an unauthorized shop) because all of them are connected to the same MB master database, so any dealer can see the history associated with any VIN (assuming that all work has been done by an authorized MB service center).

Asking for the VMI with the service history is easy.. Just run down to a local dealership and talk with one of the service writers or salesmen. Some independent shops have access to that information also. However like Mr. Toad stated above, only the work that was performed at the dealerships (warranty or customer pay) would be listed on that. Anything done at an independent shop would not be included. It's like asking for a Carfax printout and trying to rely solely on that on the condition of your used car. Carfax only has information from the dealerships or insurance claims. Anything paid for with cash (not an insurance claim/repair) to repair the car after an accident will not be reported to Carfax.

Hi Joe, just wondering do you still have access to VMI? I just recently purchased a CLS and want to know SBC and fuel pump has replaced before or not. Thanks 🙏
