Radar Detector Problem

Radar Detector Problem
I can't get my radar detector to stop beeping and flashing laser when I window mount it on my 2000 E320. Is this normal on MB's because of all their electronics? Any suggestions? JG

I'm not familiar with that one.I'm using a V1 in my '02 C32,and have never had any problems of any kind.All that I can suggest is to try the unit in another car to see if the problem persists.

that shouldn't have anything to affect the radar detector. I have three Passport 8500's hardwired into our MB's and all of them work just fine.
Even in the w220, it's got the rain sensor and a whole lotta electronics in there :p but still picks up fine.
Where are you mounting the unit? I'm not sure if the 2000 w210 have the metal oxide coating windshields...if so, there's a specific spot where it lets radar signals through. If you look at the windshield during night time, take a flash light and shine it at an angle right above the passenger side dash..you should see a trapezoid shaped "tint" or "hole", if you have metal oxide that is.

1st thing the dealer checked. No metalic windshield. I tried even holding unit away from windshield and moving it around and still beeps and laser word starts blinking. I wonder if I could try a detector from a retailer before I buy it? JG

do you have COMMAND in your car? If so and you point your radar/laser detector at or around it, it'll start to go crazy on LASER...don't know why, i'm thinking of an interference with the IR or something.
It does that in our w220...but that's only if you point the thing at it.

Been trying different things. What I now find is that the unit doesn't beep or "laser" appear at stop or when I apply brakes. It does however start to beep and flash laser when I accelerate at about 2000 rpm's and continues to do so until I apply brakes and will come back on if above 2000 rpm if i take foot off of brake. What the ....? JG
