Mercedes Benz USA customer rip off: $1K for a FOB

I just paid $1093.67 for a new FOB, the dealer even charged me $25 in freight. Fortunately, I have a great mechanic close to my home but I'll never again step on a dealer's place.

MB USA should be ashamed for ripping customers off.

They are banking on that you can't get it programmed anywhere else, I forgot if all you need is XENTRY or need SCN Coding as well.

What vehicle is this? Prices vary for vehicle for example.

For example W212 it is actually discontinued altogether: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...continued.html

If it makes you feel any better....a friend with a Dodge just paid $1000 for a key that goes to a $20k car....so, there we have it. Last MB key I purchased (for a 2020 GLS) was right at $700....simple solution is to not lose your keys ;-)

Yep, that's what these cost these days. Not just from MB either. I know it's crazy that one of these costs as much as a smartphone, but there's no competition. For security, the factory is essentially the only one that can make the key. Has to be made specifically for your VIN, so there's an individual production process for it. They can't just pull one from the shelf and ship it like with most other parts. As demeaning as it sounds, but yes, don't lose it. Attach an AirTag to it if you are prone to losing keys. We lost one of the fobs for my wife's car. I left it on the roof of the car, because I was gonna repark her car, but then she needed to go somewhere and drove off with the key fob on the roof and it fell off somewhere. Traced where she drove, but never found it. We didn't bother replacing it. It's a fairly old car and the quote was something like $500. I attached AirTags to the remaining fob and the spare key. My wife also tends to misplace her keys, and it already paid off finding it on another occasion.

That is why we need to know the year and model of OP's vehicle, there was a mention prior to 2014 model year it might be cloneable so for way cheaper and don't need to go through the dealership: https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...ml#post9020215

Search Google or Yelp for nearby places too. For example, there's mobile car-key cloning company around me.
