For the same model year? Have you test driven them?

I guess it would depend on what you need. To me, the main difference is size . Do you need a small racecar (C) or a larger cruise car (E). Personally, I own a C Class but really lust after an E Class. The C is just too small for me. The E seems just about the right size for a car. But that's my personal opinion.

They are quite different, C55 is a harsher ride, sport seats, sports suspension..etc. BUT a lot more fun, acceleraton is just breathtaking.

I, personally, much prefer the C55. Just depends on what qualities you look for in a daily driver. The E 500 is a much more leisurely car.

Lightbulb I would get the C55, no question...

If for no other reason than having the satisfaction of knowing that you have the top of the line version of its class. I've always felt that it's better to have the AMG version of a "lesser" car, than having the "mid-level" version of the higher model. I know that if I had an E500, I would always be thinking about the E55. But if I had the C55, there aren't any other C-class models to covet or be envious of...

Aside from that, I'd rather have a C55 simply for it's performance, and I think that it's a damn fine car. With all due respect to our C-class owners, there is a world of difference between the C55 and the four cylinder variations, although all are nice cars...

I'd get the C55!!

Best regards,
Matt

The big factor here in room in the cabin. Do you need more room in the back & trunk? If yes, go E500. However, the performance aspects of the C55 make it my choice between the two (because I'm not too worried about room).

When I had a C32, I wished I would have bought an E55. But, between the two, C55 is my choice.

Wow, talk about basing a decision on pure ego! :p Personally, I'd rather have a car that fit my needs better. If that need was for more room, then the E500 would be the nicer/better car. If that need was power, then the choice would switch to the C55.

I guess I wasn't being articulate enough here. My point was that the AMG versions fit my needs, and I would rather have the AMG version of a "lesser" (Note the quotes here) model, rather than have a non-AMG version of one of the "more prestigous" model. It has absolutely nothing to do with ego, and as a matter of fact, I meant the exact opposite of how you took my post.If I knew I was going to be psycho-analyzed based on only two sentences, I would have taken the time to be more explicit...

Arrow After rereading my post, I realize that it sounds harsher than I intended it to be...

I didn't mean to sound so defensive, as I was really just trying to explain myself better. I like the AMG cars for both their performance and their heritage, rather than for any sort of ego-boost. Noltnor didn't give any details in regards to his thought process about the dilema, so without knowing more about his needs, I just gave my two cents. My apologies for sounding like a *****!

Matt

Hey Matt, no problem. I didn't mean the "ego" comment to be insulting as I'm sure many people do buy the Mercedes and AMG Brands based on ego.

You are correct, the original poster did not give any details to consider, so it's hard to formulate a true recommendation without knowing more info. What I meant to convey is that I would not look at someone driving an E320 as having "less of a car" than the one driving the C55. If you've got 2 or 3 kids, and you plan on driving them around a bit, then room is definitely a concern (unless you enjoy getting kicked from behind - of course, this could/will still happen in the E ;p).

E500. The ride is better, looks nicer, and will probably be easier (and cheaper) to maintain if you're looking to keep the car long term.
