Gl500/550

Gl500/550
Hey Guys,
went to my local benz dealer in Saudi (Riyadh) today, Juffali Motorcars asking about the availability of the GL 450 here....was suprised to find out that the GL 450 and 500 (what I believe will be called GL 550 in the US) will both be making their debuts soon....the date hasnt been set yet but the dealer assured me any day now...I was suprised as I didnt know the 500/550s were being made yet....however the salesman showed me a number of cars which had already been shipped with status code on his computer system of "in main warehouse in Jeddah" of both the 450 and 500 models complete with option codes the works...I have print outs of examples of both models (each say 2007 MY)....anyways, the 500/550 is about 10-12k US more than the 450 for those who are interested....
one other note, the salesperson also gave me a brochure that details the 500 model as well as the 450 with stats/pics and so on, however my arabic is poor, but the 500 will come with 388hp and from the pics it looks similar to the 450, but with different rims and the fogs are chromed it seems, those were the only outer differences i could see....the only other thing is in the car printouts he gave me the 500 has whats called exclusive passion leather which the 450 does not and the 450 comes with burl walnut trim and the 500 comes with high gloss wood, which from the brochure I believe is a very light wood which has very noticable round circular stains on it....
anyways....will keep you guys updated when the debut date is...will test drive both and see if the 500 is worth the extra cash....

seems like the Premiere editions have the interiors that the 500/550's have standard. I also have a feeling that the 500's have 20" wheels that were on the PE's. The oval fog lamps are part of the bi-xenon lighting pkg

it has pretty much the same info but in german instead of arabic...the black GL with the GL500 plate is the same as used in the brochure and if you go to modelle and technical daten it will give you the specs for the 500..

Given the choice between the 450 and 550, the 550 is definitely worth it! As is the case with other MBZ models, once the larger/better engine debuts the lesser one takes on wannabe status. Looking at the history of MBZ, the desirability/prestige of any model is predicated on its engine size/performance.

Yet I think you'll find across the ranges that the first/second year depreciation is greater the bigger the engine is.

My friend is going to be so **** when i show him this thread.
He just got the GL450, in LA and he asked the dealer 10 times making sure if the GL550 is coming in or not. Dealer says 100% not coming. So he went in paid the guy and drove him his 450 before he left he said if the GL550 comes out I will KILL THAT *******.
LOL. Decent price he paid like i believe 60k without sales tax pretty much fully loaded.
And as for me I am still confused on what sedan to get. TOO MUCH debating to do with the 63's and 55's I just might end up getting S550. I have a budget I wish I my budget was limitless!
