RearView Back-Up Camera f/Factory
Just picked-up our GL450 on Monday and dealer said was the first
one they delivered with the factory installed rear view back-up camera.
If anyone is interested works excellent and gives a very broad viewing area
IMO. Just wished it automatically went on when you select reverse as seems
to only work if you have left the Command unit powered on before you turn
off ignition on previous drive - if not you have to hit the power button before picture is displayed.
Really like this car ALOT.

I had my dealer looking for GLs and he noticed that there are some GLs coming with the camera and voice activation. It's very interesting though that if you have a dealer build a car they still cannot request these options. Seems to be at the whim of MB as to whether they provide these features or not.
Similarly, an ML cannot be ordered with Active Ventilated Seats, but MB is including it on some of the ML63 cars. Saw one in my dealership--nice to see all those buttons filled!

I just ordered a built-to-my-spec GL450 a few weeks ago for an early October build date. I ordered, and the system accepted, the back-up camera.

But, that was the past. I am VERY glad to see that these options are becoming available.
MB should really put all of these things into option packages instead of separate options. Over the last 12 years, I have been driven insale by MB and their individual options.

Along the same line, does anyone know if Active Ventialted seats are available for the US GL? They are available in Eurpoe (even though their cars are also built in the US), but I believe it is becasue the euro-spec cars get perforated leather.

The bad news is it's been 10 weeks and 2 days since I ordered...still no GL. Could it be these options are holding up my order?

I was able to order the back up camera back in May for July build. I took delivery about a month ago. 10 weeks is not particularly long. Call you salesman and ask for a status. They can tell you pretty accurately when the build date is. After the build date, add about 2 weeks for arrival.
