Improving HK Audio System

Thought of this when reading the thead on the 11 or 14 speakers in the GL - any members out there that know something about car audio - any thoughts on how to improve the sound? I was thinking of adding an aftermarket subwoofer but would want it to fit where the current one fits. I don't want to put a speaker shelf in the back and take up space...and I don't know if adding a sub would help or not...

Any thoughts on how to improve the sound? It is okay but does not sound all that great. If there was a way to improve it by adding subs/speakers/amplifiers I bet a lot of us would consider it...

yes, simplest would to be add a sub, however it still doesn't fix the crappy sound from the rest of the speakers. Personally I would replace all the speakers and amplify.

Thanks 03LX for pointing me in the direction of your previous thread. Seems like few are pleased with the sound in the GL

My personal opinion is that the whole system (speakers and amp) would need to be replaced to significantly improve the sound quality. If I were to do one or the other I would start with the speakers. To me the cost of doing this would not be worth it. Does it sound great? No. Does it sound terrible? No. It is just disappointing in a car costing as much as these GL's do. I am sure others will chime in to defend the sound system but I am not one of them.

The S 550 sound system may be the same as the GL??? However, it is far from "crappy" to say the least. I found it fantastic and I could vibrate the windshield with the base boost if necessary to compete with the super boom box systems next to me in traffic.

What are you 16? why even mess with the little kiddies? they are probably saying look at grandpa over there that has to buy an $80k vehicle to get bass like me...

Seriously though, the S550, which I do hear on a daily basis has no impact, it is just loud... you old people kill me.... messing with you some more...

let me help you out and find an old link to audio... you guys are killing me. give me a few minutes to post it...

As the saying goes..."I really don't give a rats A**..." The sound in the S was fine, the sound in the GL is fine, the sound on my iPhone is fine. I could care less about why or how the sound is lousy, bad, s***** or that the GL has cheap speakers. I listen to the music and go on my merry way...grandpa is happy he is able to drive and still hear anything...:-)))

ahh

Ok.. Fine.. Whatever

Who ever starts an upgrade on speakers, please loop me in. I would like to go that route. Not that I love vibrating windows, but would like to occasionally scare a few kids in the neighborhood.
