Vehicle Preparation Center
Today was my scheduled "Build Day". I received an email today from my salesman telling me that my 550 was in the "Vehicle Preparation Center" and I should get my monies in order. I never heard that term before. Is that the same as "Build" or is it a later stage perhaps?? I left him a message but he must have left so I won't get to speak to him until tomorrow sometime. Anyone hear this term before?
If I bit my nails, I would have chewed off my fingers by now.

I may be totally wrong, but I think that means your vehicle is near your local market. I believe that for all MB's east of the Mississippi the center is located in Baltimore, MD. The weird thing is that I thought the centers were the first stop after U.S. Customs for each new Mercedes-Benz imported into the country, not those coming from Alabama.
Good luck and hopefully, you'll have your GL in a matter of days!

P.S. My 550 is being built in Germany, not Alabama. It was an option.
For an extra $100 they will build your car in Germany and upgrade the NAV, IPOD Adapter and install larger mirrors.

Funny. I found two different links stating that the center is in two different places. Huh?
Check it out:

BTW...Build date in Vance is the completion date not the start...B5 I think is the code.

Patsy-
Is it true that the delivery date for the east coast (in my case NJ) could be a week post build?

sorry for the delayed answer. I think I might have returned your PM. In any event, the "build date" is not the day the vehicle is built but rather the day it's finished and ready to ship to the dealer. This is what the dealer told me anyway. The vehicle seemed to arrive very shortly after the build date, within like a week. Hang in there!

I have a 320 on order as well. Visited the dealer today, and he still didn't have a VIN (slated for Feb build, March delivery). He did tell me, however, that once he gets the VIN, it could be ready for delivery in as little as a week. Seems to jive with what is posted here.
Mine's a German build as well. They're flying it over. Not bad for $100.
