Lightbulb Service A to Service C...Where is Service B?

My GL450 turned 1-year old recently, and has 10,500mi on the clock. Well, the OBC said Service A was due now, so I took it to the dealership to have it done for $200. Got the GL back, and noticed the OBC now saying that Service C is due in 13,000mi. My question is, what happened to Service B? Why did it get skipped? Did the service tech. make an error when resetting the computer? I would assume that the next service to be done should be a Service B, not Service C.

Thanks for all your help.

At about 7,000 miles, I got a message that Service B was due...never even got Service A. I took it in & the SA said that the service indicators will change from A to B to C, etc. depending upon the driving conditions of the vehicle. Not sure if he was full of BS or not, but I had the Service B done. I've got 16,600 on the car now and the indicator says Service C to be done at 19K.

Cal,

I was wondering how anyone could only have 10,500 miles on their GL after 1 year. Then, I noticed your other toys. Lucky you.

BTW... I turned 4,000 miles at 3 months and thought I was doing pretty good at keeping my mileage low. Guess not.

Got my 320 in May of aught-7 and with nearly 21,000 miles on it I've done an A and a B. Not seen a C! Weirdness.

My guess is, Cal, that your mechanic skipped a service. I had service A message come up about a month after I got the car last Dec. When I took it in for 1K checkup, they reset it and now it tells me that service A is due at 15K miles. I know I am not that nice a driver Take it in.

We have had our GL320 since the end of Sep and only have 1800miles on it. My wife is saving it for when her '89 E300 dies.

The GL is mostly our weekend car as the wifey drives the E as her daily commuter and I drive the old bimmer. However, the GL will now see more miles as it will be used more often. Just took it on an 1800 mile round trip to Seattle and I couldn't have asked for a better vehicle to use on that trip. BTW, you have some nice toys yourself. Wish I could have waited another year or so for the GL550, but the 450 is fine for now.

Thanks to everyone else for their input. I guess I will call up the dealer and see what's the deal with the maintenance indicator.

Speaking of old benzos, we used to have an '83 240D that we just got rid of 1.5 years ago. It needed a major overhaul (engine work) and we decided to let it go instead.

I bought my GL450 with 8,000 miles on it (executive demo). I am not due for service and it says B service is due at about 13,000 miles. So do you think they did the A service before I bought it, or did it skip the A and it's first service is a B.

I used to get 13,000 between service on my ML.

Ask your SA or salesperson for a copy of the vehicle's service records.

My GL320 was an LPGA "Program Car," had like 700 miles on it. They should have all records of what was done to it when. (Though having the little book signed by a dealership shop does add a few dollars to the resale price.)

I was at the dealer today...

I asked if they had any repair or maintenance work done on it. The answer was "nope, other than we top off fluids, etc when we sold it to you" The vehicle said to do a Service B but the dealer said since it was it's first service they would do a Service A. All went well and since my salesman gave me my first service free, I walked out at no charge - saved $240.
