Brembo Brake Upgrade

Does anyone have an opinion about Brembo's crossdrilled rotors and pads? I think they would look great with the AMG wheels.

If you are talking about the big brake upgrade I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday. I had the Brembo Gran Turismo kit on one of my previous cars and I was very happy with it. The only drawback is the price, I dont know the exact pricing but I am sure it is in the 3-4k range and maybe up.

I was thinking more about the Sport Brake kit, crossdrilled rotors and pads.

Are either of you having any issues with your current brakes? Other than the notorious dusting that nearly all MZBs are know for...

Or are going for different looks?

For me just looks with my chrome AMG's, any reduction in dust would be a bonus.

If you are looking for brake dust reduction for the GL, I have had a great experience with Centric aftermarket pads from Dave Zeckhausen. They work great and have almost no brake dust.

Here is an earlier post on the topic: https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....24&postcount=1

Thanks for the tip, according to the Brembo site if I understand it correctly, they make some of the Mercedes OEM rotors. I would like the crossdrilled or slotted rotors if I don't sacrifice any brake performance. Even the C class loaner cars have these rotors. Brake dust on fully chromed AMG wheels is a nuisance.

Oops. I did not notice in your sig that you were talking about the GL550. I know the pads I mentioned work in the GL320 and GL450, but I have no idea if the fitment is the same for your truck.

I am not having any issues but if i were going to upgrade my brakes I would get the brembo big brake kit. Not only would it look awesome (i would probably get bigger wheels first though) but the braking power is second to none.

I think a brake upgrade would be excellent if available. I think this is the weak link in the GL550 package. Relative to the other performance attributes I find the pedal feel to be too soft with late engagement. The current brakes are excellent for a vehicle this size, it's just with the power of this car I think the brake perfomance could be improved.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you notice any performance improvement. Also if you have any pics of the new rotors, I'm sure that would greatly be appreciated by all. Thanks again!

Unless you were driving it on the track (I hope not!), the improvement is very likely due to the change in pads. The rotors themselves will matter very little except in high performance situations.

What can make a huge difference is bedding the pads properly (which is true for OEM pads also). Here is an article that describes a useful method for bedding in the pads: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm.

I have the 320cdi and find the break pedal feel a bit soft and "squishy" specially as I am used to braking from my other german cars (BMW's). Anyone know if the break pads alone will make a difference or will this require a more complicated upgrade.

The GT kit for front only is listed for $4400.00.

Yeah just about what I thought. That kit plus the Brabus 23" Monoblock E will be 20k. I guess I wont be doing those mods haha.

?

Other than the looks I personally don't see why an upgrade is needed. They are just fine except for the brake dust which is very common on all Luxory cars

Thanks for the pictures and input MJ50. Like all mods beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think that the rotors look great and was under the assumption especially given the cost that the modification would include different pads.

No doubt that from a functional viewpoint the cross drilled rotors are only of benefit with extended heavy braking as they will improve heat dissipation and help avoid fade. Given the cost of the exchange and the fact that we're discussing an SUV here I think that changing pads alone would address my concerns regarding brake feel. I would love to hear anyone's experiences thus far with a different pad setup.

From all that I have read, stainless steel lines would help pedal feel but I cant find them for the OEM calipers. Brembo has them for their rcalipers.

I would have to say "it depends" . In many cases, it sure is for eye candy
