Amg Gl!
This seems a bit weird to me after seeing all the posts saying there will not be and AMG GL, but here it is:
"Mercedes high-performance tuning AMG division will not be producing a monster version of the upcoming GLK. According to Volker Mornhinweg, two SUV’s are sufficient enough to receive the AMG badging.
“There is no space for a third SUV” Mornhinweg said in an interview with Autotelegraaf. ”We are now simply going to offer the AMG-program to sedans, cabrios, roadsters and the two SUVs (ML, GL).”

The only thing that makes me still question this is that the specific mention of the ML and GL seem to have been put in by the editorial, and not by Volker. Hmmm....

If they made an AMG G, ML, and R-class, why would they not make an AMG GL? Geez, they made an AMG R63. Benz customers will always pay a premium for a more exclusive model. A GL63 is easy money.

The R class is an odd bird. I don't think Mercedes going to read too much into wheather the R63 sells or not. I read somewhere that around 90% of R owners are new MB owners. Very abnormal.
Maybe someone can convince them to can the R63 in favor of a GL63.

If you want a GL AMG, then buy a GL550 and put on a AMG badge. It has AMG body mods, AMG wheels and top of the line features. No AMG suspension or engine components but it really doesn't need them. Perhaps there will be some additions in the later models which will add to an already loaded package making it a AMG sleeper...:-)

I agree with NJ, throw on a Brabus Sports exhaust, some cross-drilled slotted rotors, a lowering module and maybe a perf. chip. Finish the job where AMG left off and really pimp it

GL550 is only 399 lb heavier than an S65 and 200 lb lighter than a G55 to put the weight issue in perspective. This is a common excuse I've heard for not building a GL63.
GL65 did you say? Now there’s an outrageous idea. I like it!

It’s not totally impossible. We’re allowed to dream a little right? I’ve heard you say your 550 is enough. Who’s to say what is enough? I’ve heard people say my 450 is more than enough and I tend to agree. But what’s wrong with outrageousness? Isn’t that pretty much the definition of AMG?

I think the 450 is enough for an SUV. I just wished those AMG wheels were an option as they were the main reason I tried to justify the 550 at one point. The extra power would be nice and the body trim is a nice touch. I could have been more swayed had the interior been more distinctive from the 450.
