GL in the sand on Padre Island

Spring Break was a bit overcast, but I decided to trek along with a friend of mine with a new Jeep and brave the sand dunes. Here's a few pics.

the GL held up very well, the new Michelin Diamaris tires weren't "ideal" in sand but kept me out of trouble. I could go anywhere he could go.

Second pic is zoomed in, but thats about a 30 ft high sand dune, with a steep incline. Hard to tell from the pic.

Ahhhh Houston, we have a problem.

Didn't you know that although it is a 4WD, you are not supposed to mistreat a MB like that.

......... or better yet. " Here. hold my beer and watch this."

Nice shots.

the resident photographer of the forum (NJ) would have gotten the sand off those tires before snapping that first photo.

Nice pictures though.

We're looking at snow and/or freezing rain here tomorrow. Yet another opportunity to put the 4wd, ESP, etc to work. I'm sick of testing the GL in snow and am ready for summer and the chance to see the paint again.

Did you air down the tires at all? Bringing them down to about 10-12 PSI would have worked quite nicely on the sand with the tires you have.

I have bigger tires on my Jeep than you do, but I usually go down to about 3 or 4 PSI when I am running in the sand.

Sheesh......HR, how can you treat a GL like that?

Jokes aside, nice shots and even better to hear that GL could go where your friend's Jeep could go. Don't get into this bet with Danno though. His Jeep can go places........

no, I left pressure where they were. That place was 10 miles south of "the crowds" in no-mans land. Its another 20 to a service station, and no air for the drive home. Those tires are 30.5 inches high (doesnt look like it). I'll keep the air pressure in mind next time around.

What about a portable air compressor? I'd never go off-roading without one! In fact, you can get a spider or octopus (depending on who built it) that'll allow four wheels to be aired down or reinflated at once. Guarantees identical air pressures in all four tires!

I have an air can I could take (I take to autox races).

It was sooooo windy that day (and windy down here is about 50mph gusts, btw)... sand in places I didn't know I had. I wasn't getting out any more than I had to.

Well I got rid of the sand in the air for you, but the tires are beyond saving :-)
