Yay! I can join the GL club!
Well, a big thanks to everyone for their advice. I sent DH alone because I have a bad poker face. He first put a hold on the 450 and said he'd come back in a few days when he had more time. The salesman called 3 days later and asked when were planning to pick up the 450. DH went in the next morning (last day of the month) and came home with the 550. My hero! In the end, I don't know if we got as great a deal as we could have - $79k - but he knew I really wanted the 550 so he went with it.
My kiddies really love the car, although maybe not as much as they love the SL. They don't understand why all cars can't open up like daddy's car.

This came from my phone so not a great pic. We're heading to the beach tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some nicer shots. My daughter's teacher said the car is really bling-y, which I suppose is a good thing since I was trying to avoid the soccer mom car. Surpringly, my husband has driven it more than I have!

Very Nice! Looks amazing in black. I was debating if I should go with black, and then my dealer got the Cubanite Silver, and I liked it so much and bought it. It's easier to keep clean 
But you will love your GL550! I like mine a lot, and I get a lot of compliments on it, but mind you I have the only GL550 in all of the province...

This came from my phone so not a great pic. We're heading to the beach tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some nicer shots. NJ- I had been lurking on the GL boards for a long time and followed your story. I totally drooled over the pictures of your car once you finally got it and it became my dream car.
Black/black isn't a popular combination here in Hawaii because it's hot and hard to keep clean. And with kids, the black interior is a must. But honestly, this car looks good in any color. Never met a GL I didn't like!
