Tranny Bug. Now I have it, too.
Back from my big road trip! Pics to follow...
Anyway, I now, too have the dreaded cold shift problems. Started as a hard shift when cold 3-4 for the first few shifts of the morning, now has developed into a full-on slip when cold at partial throttle 3-4 with a big slipping rev burst, then grabbing 4 with a slam.
The hard shifts have been there from the start, but I thought it was the tranny "learning". Now it has developed into a slip situation, I know something else is up. Seeing service on Monday.

I had this issue on my GL550 and it was a rather quick fix. The dealer replaced the throttle body on the transmission with a newer more up to date version and it cured the problem. They also updated the transmission control unit via SDS since there was a newer firmware out for that as well. Your dealer should be updating all the software modules in the car each time you take it in.

I just took delivery last week, and it was built three weeks before that.
I now also have the hard downshift when slowing for school zones etc., just turned up this afternoon.
PS: now that I re-read your last comment you make more sense, I think you must mean valve body, right?

Brock...the hard downshift is typical of this transmission. Feels like someone runs into the back of you!! Have had it to dealer three times for fix..tranny software is dumped and reloaded....then dealer says it will now adapt to your driving style. I guess a good pump of the brakes when downshifting from 3 to 2 is my doing?!
I have learned to live with as well as many others on this forum.

Have them replace the valve body and reprogram the tranny. Mine has been perfect for 10000 miles now since this has been done. (And it better stay that way!!!) I'm surprised they are still building these with the bad parts and old program.
Read a post somewhere here that in Sept. there is to be an upgrade to fix all shift woes. Not holding my breath, but that would be the right thing for MB to do.
