Fuel line gelled up

Temp got below zero degrees last night in State College, PA. Had to use Power Service Diesel 911 to get the GL running. About a 5 hour process.

Plan to use Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement® + Cetane Boost® for the next several months to avoid problem again. I do not work for this company by the way..........

Anyone have any experience with this product?

I had to use a hair dryer for half an hour blowing on the fuel filter and fuel distributor. Now I use the additive by Schaeffer Oils. Seems to actually run a bit smoother, but that could be attributed to the fact that it has now "warmed up" to +12F coming from -21F.

The USLD formulation is more prone to gelling than LSD. Biodiesel is worse. I use PS (white bottle) in all my diesels. It was -14 here in WI the other nite...my GL320 turned over slowly in the AM but fired up on first try. No gelling.

dgiturbo, I believe stations in N Illinois all use some form of biodiesel...which will gell in winter temps. Best to use some anti-gell additive with each tank. Just my 0.02,

Just curious...

Are you guys using Diesel#2 or Diesel#1 when fueling? I believe Diesel#1 is the winter formulation...

Since I live in a warmer area of the country, I don't have to worry about the fuel gelling problem, but in the past when I have gone up to the Colorado mountains in the winter, I have added the Power Service to the tank just in case.

By the way... Mid-seventies today, just like it has been over the past week... And I can get in the car and be skiing on the slopes in 2 hours. Gotta love AZ! Go Cardinals!

I had a similar issue in VT on New Years day, could not get a tow until the following day to a local garage -- they basically put the car inside and left it in the heat for a few hours. After getting the GL back, we packed up without turning it off and headed home, did not want to chance it. I had fueled up in NJ before leaving on the trip and the mechanic in VT suggested fulling up there as the diesel mixture had an additive to protect against this.

Late last week with the lower temps in NJ I again detected a bit of a hesitation on first start in the morning

Called dealer today and they stated MBUSA does not have an approved solution yet but is working on it. Asked about an engine block heater and he said he is not aware of one for the GL.

Any advice? Thanks

As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I am done with Jerry Jones (I never forgave hime for firing Tom Landry) I have adopted a new team. This is a natural since I hope to be at least a part time resident and desert dweller of the Grand Canyon state, in the not too distant future. Way to go Cardinals
