Dealer incentives on 09's

Does anyone know when they will start dealer incentives on the 09 models? I am interested in a GL550 for the wife.

No one can say for certain. Speak to your local salesman and tell him to call you if something comes out.

1.99 for 66 months from MB

Expect somewhere around 6k off, more depending on how many they have.

Diesel has subsidized rates, and both the 450 & 320 have good money factors, but no additional cash back on anything. Supply is way down.

FYI

I received a call from my dealer yesterday that MB Financial is offering to pay the last five months of my lease if I get into a new vehicle of the same level, i.e. S, CL, GL, CLS. They'll pay the last three months of the lease if I down-size to, say, a GLK. The only catch: the offer ends Monday 3/30. Talk about short notice!

The special MF for the diesel is only valid in certain regions. In the Western Region, the MF is slightly more compared to the petrol version. Our GL is on order, so fingers crossed for next month's rates !

Yes that's true. I just turned in my 07' S550 5 months early (just this past saturday) and got into a 09' S550 4matic with a few more extras than my older one. They paid the last five months (called accelerated program) and got into a new one.

I started this thread to see where the GL pricing was at, so when we picked up the S class, I asked about the GL. I am interested in the GL 550 for my wife and was told I can get one at $500 over invoice, so for a loaded car of MSRP $85, it would be $80.5.

Does this sound good to you guys? I am seeing GL550's around $75-76K for 2009 from the South Carolina dealership. Why would there be a difference of $4-5K, considering that $500 invoice sounds like a good deal or am I missing something?

If I understood you correctly, the dealer told you that a new GL550 would be $80,500? That's about $4000 over invoice, not the $500 they said. The South Carolina dealers' prices are on par with the invoice price, per Edmunds.com. I wonder who's telling you the truth. I too am interested in a GL550 for my parents, as it's the closest thing to the Premier Edition GL they currently have, with the added bonus of a bigger engine. I drove one the other day and I liked it. It's quieter than our GL and for some reason, even the power steering has a little more boost, which for my dad, 80, is good. I'm a bit out of touch with car buying, so I'm not so sure any more what is a "reasonable" offer to make the dealer. I was taught that anything like 3-5% over dealer cost was a decent price, but nowadays, things have changed so much that I simply don't know. I hope others chime in on this thread and provide some insight.

You are absolutely right about the invoice of around $75-76K, but most of the GL550's come through with options placing them at $85-6K. The options are usually DVD, premium leather , trailer hitch, ipod, sills so that puts them at that price range.

Pateljb, the invoice price for a GL550 with Premium leather, metallic paint, hitch and heated/ventilated seats comes out to about $78,745, according to Edmunds.com. The list price is what's $84,605. If the dealer wants to charge that, then they're not charging you $500 over invoice, but more like $6000. That's not a deal I'd want. What I'd like to know is just how much over the invoice price is considered a reasonable offer. Perhaps someone on this forum can enlighten us.

IMHO (as an ex-Mercedes salesman) $500 over invoice is a fair price for a current year model minus any trunk money offered at the time. If you are looking at a leftover '08, then it is appropriate to dip into holdback a bit.

But you've got to let people make SOME money...

Stickygreen, thanks for your reply. I have no problem allowing the dealer to make some money. In fact, that's how it should be. However, I have bought all my cars from this particular dealership at MSRP, so they've made a LOT of money off me. Now, after 10 years of loyalty, I think it's time for some rewards. I plan to offer $500 over invoice and see what happens. In all likelihood, my salesman will say he simply can't do it, in which case, he won't make a sale. It's as simple as that. As far as "trunk money" is concerned, it is my understanding that it is money the consumer never sees, but that the dealer receives above and beyond what they get from the buyer. So, in this case, it really wouldn't be $500 over invoice, but $500 over whatever incentives MB gives it's dealers. Please clarify if I've misunderstood.

The dealer is offering pateljb around $80.5k, not MSRP.

Yes, you are right. I did not realize that when I said the GL 550 comes with a few options, I forgot to mention that the invoice is around $80K with an MSRP of $85-6K.

Thanks for helping to clear that up.

Got a call from my salesman, MB announces 1.9% financing for the GL 450 and 550 and lease rates for the 550 in the $1300 range for 12-15K/yr for 36months.

I think with 1.9% financing, I may pull the trigger. This is for the month of April.

I heard about this too, and I'm not sure whether to lease or buy. A zero down lease vs a zero down 66 month purchse will work out to about the same amount monthly. The only difference is the obvious lower total payments with the lease. I'll probably lease, as these numbers are about the same as what I currently pay for the PE GL450, and after a few years I get the new car itch anyway, as does my father, for whom this truck is being bought. Now comes the hard part: what color to get .

Don't buy unless you will keep for 5+ years or you'll be upside-down like a fancy rollercoaster until near the end. With gas prices bound to go up and questionable reliability, the GL 550 won't find much love down the road. Leasing is the way to go for sure if they are a wash financially at this time. 6 months into last year I was offered a GL 550 at 12-13 K off MSRP and decided to pass. With each passing month the price will drop but supply may drop and interest rates change. Since winter is over here in the Northeast, Patel should be able to get one at "real invoice" of under 80 for 84-85 MSRP vehicle. Ask them to show you the invoice. My goal is around 70 for 09 GL 550 with most options and it might take until the summer or so.

The car in the EBay auction doesn't have the typical option packages which would otherwise add thousands of dollars to the price.
