Oh man. Water leak in my new GL electronics. Help!

Wow.

Got a new GL450 a couple of weeks ago. Been having odd electrical issues since (including one dangerous one where the window my 2 yr. old daughter was sitting next to started raising and lowering on its own.)

Brought it in for service today to discover that there is some type of water leak and/or broken A/C evaporator hose that has actually caused water to pool in the well under the seats that holds the cars electronics.

Obvioulsy I'm not happy that my new $70,000.00 truck with 1400 miles on it has water soaked electronics.

Can anyone give me the name and contact issue of MBUSA's district manager for New Jersey. I've been calling around but can't get an answer.

This is my 5th new MB. First time I've had a major issue like this.

Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

why dont you give the dealer a chance to repair your truck first?

just a thought...

A truck with water soaked electronics is a truck that will have a lifetime of problems.

you do not know that for a fact.

i have seen luxury vehicles that have spent days under water, 30k miles later still have the "flooded" interior smell, water marks, etc.. and yet work at 100%.

and i have seen vehicles that have splashed in a pothole and turned into electrical disasters ever since.

trust me. let the dealer fix the problem, then if it is not done to your satisfaction seek to escalate.

I understand what your saying.

But I do know for a fact that I have had electrical issues from the first day of ownership (had to call roadside assistance to get it out of the garage the very first time I went to drive it.)

I don't want a brand new $70,000 vehicle with water soaked electronics that isn't my fault.

If they can fix it and it will run fine than a MB executive can use it as a demo and drive his kids around in it.

I have to sympathize with you - at 1400 miles, I'd say, "Well, here's the keys, when can I expect my replacement?" Truly a bad start.

you missed my point.

your approach is wrong. nobody would pay attention to you unless a good will effort is made on your side to fix the truck _first_ and happens X times in Y days for the same problem or Z days out of order for the whole year.

the lemon laws are very clear and currently while you are disappointed (i would be too in your shoes) you have no recourse other than drop off the truck to get it fixed.

just my 2 cents

Check the TSBs http://www.whnet.com/4x4/tsb_164.html. I see a couple related to wanter in the interior.

While this is a MAJOR bummer, I do think Alex has nailed it. MB will try to repair first.

You guys have it all wrong; you walk in to the dealership with an indignant look and a pair of dueling pistols. You slap the first person who walks up to you (let's hope it's not another customer). You demand to see the manager and then throw a drink in the face of your salesman. When he goes to get either a towel or the manager, you slap him, then the very next person you see. You go to the service drive and challenge the service manager or your advisor (whomever wears the thickest prescription glasses) to a duel. Slap someone wearing blue. Drinks all 'round on everyone's shirts, and then step on someone's foot. Punch a woman, just for shock value. Shave a cat and threaten an allergic person with the hair. (Release the cat back to it's bewildered owner.) Speak unkindly to a child, and steal his/her lollypop, dashing it on the ground. Take refuge in your truck as the child's father, apparently either a professional wrestler or an actual mountain gorilla, threatens your life or at least the use of several of your limbs. Retreat back to your home (taking a different route so as to lose the mountain gorilla) and create a new, more diabolical plan.

Okay, now I feel better. This is what I was going to do with my truck. I just couldn't find dueling pistols, or I could've let you guys know how it turned out.

A little from column A, a little from column B ... but I'm okay now that I've gotten my medication refilled.

Last year I experienced some electrical issues that started out with the truck just dying. Called roadside assistance and once they simply jumped it and the second time they replaced the battery. The next time it happened, my parents, who normally use the truck, were stranded in a hot parking lot until I arrived. Soon afterward, the driving lights decided to stay on, even with the light switch in the Off position and the truck locked. Later that day, the wipers started to turn on and off without any action by me. Then it just died, and when restarted, went into "limp" mode for about a block before dying again. On my way to the MB dealer, once I got it started again and out of limp mode, the A/C quit and the lights started flashing on and off. The truck became possessed until finally, there was white smoke coming from the dash about a couple of miles from the dealer. At that point, I pulled over and got out, lest it catch fire. It didn't, but the rep at roadside assistance still wanted to dispatch the fire dept. I reassured him that the truck was not on fire, and that all I needed was a tow truck; I didn't want to waste resources and be the cause of a rubbernecking traffic jam on the turnpike. Once at the dealer, the service dept started a blame game with their body shop, who had fixed the truck after a rear-end collision the year before. Thanks to one of our knowledgeable people here, I was able to guide the body shop manager to look at the sunroof, where the leak was. He was off the hook, as his work on the rear had not caused the leak in the front that took out the main computer under the driver's seat, and the service writer who didn't listen to me had egg on his face. Long story, not so short, $10,000 later (covered by warranty) the truck was returned to me. No significant problems thereafter, but I got rid of it as soon as possible and got the GL550 we now drive. It too lives outside, so if this sunroof leak is an ongoing issue, I may need the fire dept after all when it eventually catches fire.

This is happening WAY to much! I’m stripping mine down like it’s audition for the movie Show Girls. This is BS… I had already tore it down this summer like I left $100 tapped to the dash in the hood. I mean stripped it down. They used an Ionizer Machine. Rained last week, and it happened to be outside. Took rear end apart, and there’s water in the passanger side rear. Now I’m gonna have to start pulling the panels off the roof and walls. I’ve read everything from the panoramic window stripping, to the pillars on the roof rack. My look a little funky and sorta abused so I’m thinking that’s it. You have to remove the roof to get to the damn bolts. to https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discus...52817_ds930647

Well here you go. I didn’t think I could despise Mercedes any more… Here’s how you get to the route of your water leak. Have fun! This is going to be a long as weekend. I’m buying the panoramic roof seal in advance, and changing it regardless. I’ll try and document as much as possible…
