07 GL450...Check Engine Light On
Just 413 miles ago, my Check Engine Light came on and I brought it in to MB right away. I didn't notice anything different with the way it drove. The camshaft magnet A and B were replaced - according to my paperwork. Additionally, the service advisor said good thing I brought it in b/c it could have stopped while driving without warning. Great!
MB said this morning it's not a related issue - although the service advisor didn't even look at my car. Yes, my car is under warranty, but I need a little help understanding what is going on with my car! Is this something I should be concerned about with future problems? How dangerous is this?
Any input/advice will help.
Also, my car was at MB yesterday and the techs have no idea what is wrong with my car. Perhaps better luck today with them.

1. truck gets a check engine soon light.
2. truck goes in for service - problem identified- camshaft hall elements replaced
3. truck gets a check engine soon light again
4. truck goes in for service - problem not identified. obviously not the same problem as before.
5. you post a question should you be concerned.
what kind of answers do you expect from an internet forum if you have no symptoms and the dealer with a starmark equipment does not know what your problem is?
i know we good - but not _that_ good

Alex - I read thru some posts yesterday where some knowledgeable people identified the problem when MB couldn't. I really wasn't expecting anything, but hoping that someone encountered this issue as well. I worry that this could be a potentially deadly safety issue, if not repaired properly. I don't know jack about cars, but do want to make sure my family is riding in a safe vehicle.
Peace.
Good luck to you!

I did ask my SA if the GL's had known issues, he said no. Maybe he's not being totally honest.

It's disappointing to me a) I should purchase a car for so much money that's not properly engineered, built, assembled (then again, I could've bought an Alfa Romeo or a Ferrari and had the same experience) and b) a car built by a foreign car builder, inside the U.S., should present itself as something other than perfect. Though I do like the idea of owning a U.S. built car and still having a Mercedes. When I bought my only other Merc (a used 1986 560SEL - a limo by Euro standards!) the name was synonymous with absolute precision in engineering and manufacture, over-engineered in fact. I hope they regain that soon.

The difference is that my check engine light did not come on at the same time!
Every time a CEL comes on, that fact - and the cause - should be stored in the engine computer until cleared by the service department. If the SA at your dealer isn't willing to pursue the problem for you then you better find a dealer with a SA that is more helpful.
You are right however, M-B should NOT be building cars at the price point these sell for with the quality issues some of these have shown. I blame this on the bad influence of various Chrysler execs that moved over to Mercedes. It may get better (hopefully).
The '07 450 just got the CEL last Thursday, scheduled it for service this week. Stay tune....
SA said it's fine to drive with the CEL light on and only when it blinks that there is a major issue???
