burning rubber smell

09 GL320 BTC here. Since last week, the truck started to have the smell like burning rubber every time it was parked. Has anyone experienced the same problem?

It's unlikely. GL threw a big red warning if you do so.
I'll find some time tonight to get it checked out before sending to the dealer. Hopefully it's not sth biggy.

Are you sure it is not the particulate filter burning off deposits? Have you smelled that before?

With my ML, between 6K to 9K miles I think, I did get a burning rubber smell when I parked the car after a 2 hour drive. Checked around and under the truck, but nothing found. Mentioned it to the dealer, but got puzzled looks. Someone on the forum who said they tested the ML for MB mentioned the DPF purging itself.
Do a search for "burning rubber smell" on the ML side.
Oh, and I have never had that smell again, so I would assume that it may have been a protective coating that burns off at the first DPF regen cycle??

This might explain! My GL had that smell for only about a few days. The smell is gone now.

The owners manual talks about the exhaust systems "cleans" itself by allowing itself to reach high temperatures periodically to burn off carbon, etc. I read that in my 07 ML 320 CDI manual. My 08 GL 320 does has that smell occasionally but im not sure of the intervals. I have 18K miles now on the GL and still notice it occasionally. It helps reduce the carbon emissions thus less diesel exhaust smell.
