Question Mud Flap Install Questions

Hi All:

Can someone provide answers or a web link to 2 questions:

1. Am I right that the GL 450 with OEM running boards can not accomodate front mud flaps?

2. Can some provide install instructions for rear mud flaps or a link to instructions on proper installation of rear mudflaps.

Thanks in advance!!

1. Correct, only the rears will fit properly with OEM running boards (at least on the 2010s)
2. My dealer installed the rear flaps for me

Thanks for the info. My dealer charges minimum of $100/hr and I think that I should be able to install the mud flaps. If anyone has any DYI, please share.

Instructions attached

Sorry for the quality but, that's how I received them. I installed the rear and after carefully popping out the 4 rivets on each side it was just a matter of stretching to line up the holes (screws upper side and bolts on bottom bracket). Good luck.

Thanks a lot for providing instructions. They helped.

Figuring out installation of the bottom clips was a bit tricky. After spending some quality time under the truck, I was able to finally install the bottom clips and mount the mudflaps. Second mudflap took 20 minutes to install. First - don't mention it!

Glad it worked well for you. How did you get the bootom clips to work?? I gave up trying and simply used nuts and a washer on the top of the bracket.

Thanks

First, remove all 3 existing plastic rivets from the plastic base. In order to install bottom clips, you have to carefully pull out fabric liner up and away from the plastic base in order to expose space where the metal clips for the mud flaps will slide into. Please note that the plastic base is two sided, only one side is exposed when the fabric liner is inserted into the plastic base. When you pull the liner away from the base, you will notice the groove between the two sides of the plastic base. This groove is used to keep the liner in place. 2 metal clips must be installed with flat side facing the ground by sliding each of them over the inner side of the plastic base (not the outer side which is normally seen when liner is installed). You might have to strech the clips a little with a flat screw driver in order to allow them to slide over the inner side of the plastic base. Once each of the 2 metal clips is securely in place, pull the liner back into the groove of the plastic base and install one of the 3 plastic rivets that were removed previously. Third rivet was initially removed to allow for more flexibility in pulling up the liner. Then position mud flap on the vehicle, fasten the bottom screws first but do not tighten completely yet, then ensure that you can start fastening the top 2 screws. Once confirmed, pulled the tape off of the sticker and press the top portion of the mud flap against the fender, then fasten the top 2 screws. Then tighten all 4 screws.

Thanks for the info. I was close but, couldn't figure it out. For now, I'll keep the nuts that I put on the bolts instead of the clips. But, I'll keep your instructions for if I ever need to go to oem install!

Thanks for the install post. I had mudflaps installed by my dealer last week and they kept the vehicle overnight saying that it should not be driven for 24 hours after the install to let the adhesive cure. I thought they were kidding. It wasn't a problem since they let me keep the loaner. Anyway, after reading the posted install instructions it clearly states to refrain from driving the vehicle for awhile. I guess my dealer was on the ball by keeping the vehicle overnight.

I have the rear on my 08 GL, which I will soon be trading in. Given the installation sounds like they can not be easily removed and then reinstalled on a new GL. Any thoughts from those who have done the installation themselves?
