Question Getting duped on my MB Ext.Warranty?

I have an 07 GL320 CDI,with 45k miles...factory warranty is 4yrs 50k...will most likely reach the miles first...asked my dealer for extended warranty cost, here is what he quoted, for the same coverage I have now, with a $100 deductible:

1yr- 12k miles- $3818
2yr- 24k miles- $4823
3yr- 36k miles- $6088
4yr- 48k miles- $7835

Is this right? Can I do better? Suggestions please..better companies?

Thx

You don't have to buy it from your local dealer. Prices seem very high. I've read from other members that they purchased their factory extended warranty from Lisa:

A few months ago I was quoted around the same amount, maybe a little less, for the 2 year factory plan but they were offering 50000 additional miles. I have an 09 though. Not sure if that would make a difference.

No warranty company (they're simply insurance companies) loses money on their business. Very few lose on individual policies. Mostly you're prepaying for maintenance. And piece of mind of course.

Ouch that's steep! We got our cpo 08 ML and ELW was $3400 for 2 additional yrs upto 100K miles and I though that was alot. I would shop around.

Insurance companies generally don't lose money but I think Chrysler service contract got raped by AMG repair bills hence no more policy for MB's.

Question googling Carchex, UWC..

I'm finding many scam reports? Has anyone had any trouble with CarChex, Universal Warranty Corp?

I will try " Lisa" and see her quote.

Thx

Update on Extended Warranties

There are a number of us that want to keep our GL 320 cdi a couple of more years, with an excellent warranty intact.

My readings of the forum and my research indicate that the Mercedes Warranty, while higher in price, most mimics the actual new car warranty without any hassles, deductibles, etc .

I have contacted "Lisa" without any response.

The two Mercedes Dealerships that I have contacted indicate the following:

Dealership 1: 7/75000---$ 4355 Virginia
7/100,000-$ 6082

Dealership 2: (The dealer I purchased my 07 GL through) Florida

6/75,000- $ 3235
7/75,000- $ 3695

Any comments or suggestions from the group?

Price from the dealer number 2 is good if it is a mb warranty, but remember 6/75000 or 7/75000 actually from the in service date, so in other word if you have an 07 with an in services date of 12/2006 then this warranty will only last 12/2012 or 12/2013

The last time I spoke with Lisa (sometime last year) she quoted me the following for a MB ELW (Extended Length Warranty):
7/75---$ 3490
7/100--$ 5090
But unfortunately she is no longer in this business. I should have jumped on it then. Your 7/75 from the FL dealer is still good compared to the standard $3850 at most dealers. What is the name of the FL dealer that you received your quote from? Was the quote a MB ELW?

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I am aware that the years/mileage is cumulative from the date I purchased the vehicle.
The dealership in Florida is Fort Myers Mercedes.

Thanks. Do you happen to have a contact (name and number) at the dealership? I'm in Tallahassee and will need to purchase an ELW within the next six weeks. My local dealer quoted $3850 the last time I checked for 7/75.

For the Mercedes warranty, Ayad, at 1-239-433-8300 X 3255. I do not know if this price is "special" since I purchased the car there, but I do not think so.

Anyone else out there with better quotes, since this warranty can be used at any Mercedes Dealership in the country.?

I too have an 07 GL with an expiring warranty and came to this forum as a start. Is this quote true? Can a warranty purchased at any MB dealer be used at any other MB dealer without issue?

If you purchase a true MB Extended Warranty from any dealership , then it will be honored, without deductible or any delays, by any certified Mercedes Dealership

Yes and no. They charge a "diagnosis fee" in lieu of a deductable.

I wonder if this diagnosis charge is routine, since the two dealerships I contacted did not indicate this fee...

I don't know but it feels like a money grab to me. However, it my help cover their costs if the person decides not to repair the problem. If they did not charge, the person could walk and not owe a thing and have their car repaired elsewhere for half the cost.

Talking about money grabs, my local dealership wants to charge me an inspection fee of $300 before even offering me the warranty! I just had the car in for service/repairs and they want another $300!

Is this typical?!?

Wow, there's a question for the service manager! "So, you've just serviced this vehicle (and maybe they've done all the service on the vehicle) and you don't know whether it's fit for the warranty? What exactly have I been paying for you to do to my vehicle if not make sure nothing's currently broken or fix those things that are?"
