Is there a GL 350 BluTecIRS Qualified Advanced Lean-Burn Credit for MY 2011?

Hi Folks,

Everyone seems so knowledgeable here. Am trying to figure out whether to purchase a 2010 GL 350 BluTec or a 2011.

According to the IRS website, the alternative fuel tax credit is only available for the 2010. The only 2011 cars showing eligible are BMWs.

Does anyone know if the 2011 GL 350 is available for the credit and if the IRS has not yet updated their website. The last update date was August 2, 2010.

Here's the link:
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corpor...203912,00.html

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing! I picked up my 2011 350 6 weeks ago. I don't see why it wouldn't qualify if 2011 BMW turbodiesels on the list. It must be an update issue as there are so many other cars that should be on the list. 2011 models are still relatively new. I'll send an inquiry to the IRS. The Audi Q7 TDI burns very clean and it's not on the 2011 list.

Ok, didn't get anywhere with the IRS... typical. Let's see what my accountant comes back with.

I didn't get anywhere with the IRS either.

Not sure if the BMW 2011 MYs were out earlier to account for this. But with the IRS, them rules are them rules!

Am trying MBUSA.

I'm not a tax accountant but this is my take:

Mercedes must sell 60,000 "qualified" Bluetec or hybrid vehicles before the tax credit begins to phase out. Considering MB doesn't have a big diesel or hybrid lineup, it will probably be a while before they hit 60,000 vehicles. 2011's probably just weren't out or hadn't been out long enough when this was updated.

I agree with the above, but the IRS may not. The Service is rule-based, not rationale-based. Will the IRS wait to see if more 2010's are sold before including the 2011's? If I put the car into service this year, this is what I'd want to know.

Here are the instructions for the 2009 Form 8910 and it's pretty specific:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i8910.pdf

I guess we'll have to see if the IRS updates prior to next April! Here's the latest updated in July 2010:

You can turbotax it out for free when the 2011 edition comes online, if poring through IRS tomes isn't your thing.

The IRS has updated their website as of 10/28/10. The full credit is still available.

Great news as I am waiting for my MY11 GL 350 Bluetec to arrive any day now. With 0.9% for 66 months and the credit, I'm pretty happy.

How did you get the 0.9%? What kind of a discount did you get on your 350?

Yes, are they offering .9% for 6 months? Do you have a code or place online where it says this?

Sweet!

The IRS now includes the 2011 GL350 for the $1,800 credit.

just to clarify, the tax credit means you can claim a 1,800 deduction on your taxes not any discount provided by the dealer correct?

And yes I would also be interested in finding out more about the .9% rate. Al I have heard about is 1.9%

I didn't think the 1.9% was for the GL's. Does anyone know?

The $1800 is not a deduction. It is a tax credit meaning you get the whole $1800 back. There is an IRS form to fill out when you file your taxes. The selling dealership is not involved.

The 1.9% advertised is a .9% buy rate with a 1% markup so the dealer can make some money. Some dealers will give up the markup to close the deal.

Where did you find this rate at? http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/special_offers/current mb specials page only shows a lease special for the GL. I would like to print out where this rate is listed as my gl is coming in within 7 days and since I ordered it I'm sure they'll try to get me for the 1% or more markup. So I need to be able to print this out and show them the .9% buy rate.

Look under "Financing"

Click on the box that says "Details"

And the details are on there explaining the rate breakdown.
