2011 GL450 Rear Seat Entertainment (P2) - Different Video on Right and Left Displays?
I have the factory-installed rear seat entertainment system. Is it possible to have the right and left video monitors play different DVDs at the same time? (E.g., so my son can watch Clone Wars while my daughter watches High School Musical? (this was what they wanted this morning and I couldn't figure out how to do it.))
Tried to figure it out based on the COMAND manual but can't find an answer there (as far as I can tell).

Thank you very much -- I hoped that that would be the case. And I hate to be a moron, but how do I do that last part? I.e., how do I send/direct the DVD from the in-dash 6-disc changer to go to either R or L in rear? I just got the car last weekend and have not yet mastered the command system. Thanks again.

Using the rear remote control, you have to select COMAND video and I believe you at least have to start the video up front before they can see it in the rear. And this is one of the most annoying things about the COMAND unit, or at leats it is in the 2009 model year. You have to turn on the rear audio so that your child can use the headphones. It is a menu option that says something like "activate rear audio." If you are using the rear DVD, this is not necessary.
Plus, once a DVD is playing from the in-dash DVD changer and displaying on the rear screens, you still have to advance tracks and navigate the DVD menu up front. The people in the rear cannot control the DVD up front. Or at least in my car I can't. My BIL who has a 2010, his remote in the rear has a "COMAND" setting as well as L and R. My remotes only have L and R. I bought my GL used and not sure if there were the remotes the car originally came with. So if I change DVD's while driving, I can't see the menu and have to navigate blindly to get to the DVD. it would be much easier if my daughter could hit fast forward on the remote. She can for DVD's inserted in the rear DVD slot, but not the in-dash 6 disc. At least that's the way it is in my GL.

Yes, what Shellbmb said....you have to start the DVD in the front first then chose the option to send it to the rear. Next you have to get the remote in the back seat and chose "menu" from there you can choose the "command" as your source for the DVD

I saw a picture of a video (DVD I assume) being played on the front navigation screen... is this possible? (for the front seat passenger, of course). I have the factory entertainment system on my 2008 CDI.
Thanks

Is it true that only 09 and UP GL's can play seperate DVD's on the dual screens?
I ask because I have had a salesman inform me that it is. I have never sat in a GL in my life, so I figure I will ask those that own one.
Thanks in advance

I had an '08 and for the life of me can't remember. I want to say that with the all new command system in the '09 and up that it is true. I don't remember playing separate DVD's for the kids in the '08, only once we got the '09. Hopefully someone with and '07 or '08 will chime in for you. Sorry I am not more help.

I am WAY more of the engineer/engine man. I was only asking for the Mrs as I really hate the MB asking price/depreciation

Your welcome! I do have to say though, that the command/DVD system in the '09 is far more superior than the '08. I would with out a doubt go for an '09 or higher if you can, it is definitely worth it!

The cd changer in the 07s does not understand DVDs. Only CDs. The front headunit does not understand non- nav DVDs either. So you cannot watch two separate video sources as there is only one DVD capable device on the 07s with the rear entertainment package- the DVD player under the rear seat.
