No air pump in TIREFIT Kit - '11 GL350?

Isn't there supposed to be an air pump in the TIREFIT Kit on the Bluetecs? I popped the "trunk" and there wasn't on in there. I remember our old R class had this pump and it didn't even have runflat tires.

There is no compressor or tirefix kit if the car has runflat tires.

Yeah, I finally found that statement in the manual. What are most people doing for back up (ie. carry "fix-a-flat" cannisters)?

I carry a tire plug kit and an air compressor purchased at walmart. Fix a flat can get messy. And the gl tirentakes a lot of air.

When I tow, I carry an extra wheel/tire attached to the trailer.

I do have a portable air pump. I'll have to buy a tire plug kit. Thanks!

Your "backup" is that you're supposed to be able to drive on a deflated runflat tire.

Dude or dudette, I am aware of the intent of a runflat tire! Say you are in the middle of the desert with a fully loaded car in 100F+ weather, 100+ miles away from civilization.... are you gonna drive at 50mph for 100+ miles or is it better to have some kind of a temporary fix? Just askin'. The runflats aren't all its cracked up to be, iMo.

So, then if you really want "backup," you'll carry a spare tire because somewhere in the desert you could hurt the tire on the ground so bad it's unrepairable and/or the goop won't seal the hole in any event.

Your dealer can get you the "donut" tire found in earlier GLs if you wish.

Glad our GL 450 has traditonal spare in trunk. Good luck getting a replacement RF tire ( or a middle of nowhere grease monkey who even knows how to dismount/mount one properly ) on a 4 day holiday weekend 250 -400 miles from home [ add in : at 11PM in a snowstorm with car full of family and luggage - think typical LA to Mammoth or Bay Area to Tahoe ski weekend drive ]

Fortunately or unfortunately, that is the only thing I'll miss from our GL450. Besides, I can't remember the last time I had a flat tire, knock on wood!

Nails seldom immediately deflate your tire. Typically after being "worked" in the tire for some time the tire begins to lose pressure. You could put a basket on top of your GL with a full size spare in it and you could put a donut spare in the back but then again, those options might not be practical. A tire plug kit and compressor are safe practical solutions.
