Hi from Newbie - Need help with 08 GL 320CDI Purchase

Hello everyone - been watching the boards but want to become 'official' with this post and hopefully a 08 CDI purchase. I am graduating from mini-van hell so really looking forward to it!

I decided on the '08 because it will likely fit my budget and a few other things such as my dislike for run-flats '09 onwards on the bluetecs.

I am hoping folks can enlighten me on what known problems I should look for in the 08 diesel. For that matter - what you really love about the car! Also, can anyone point me to a brochure for the '08 model year?

Is CPO warranty as good as the New Car Warranty in terms of coverage? That is what a dealer was telling me but I doubt it.

Finally any help in terms of pricing (I am looking for a P1 with running boards, towing at minimum, would alos like P2, keyless go and 19" Wheel package if I can get my hands on one).

Our '08 CDI has been a great vehicle now for 35K miles. My wife loves it so much she won't even talk about replacing it with something newer.
Issues:
Rear hatch has needed to be serviced for problems closing correctly twice;
Driver's door mirror used to contact the door panel in the closed position and was serviced once; (needs to be done again as it's just started it again);
We are noticing an intermitent 'whirring' noise from the NAV system DVD area, and it needs to be looked at at the next service; (device still functions fine, just noisy).

Essentially that's it. It has been incredibly reliable and economical for something so big and heavy. IIRC the CPO warranty mimics the standard OEM warranty and is useful to have.

Good luck with the search.

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Our 08 also has the tailgate problem. You can self adjust the rubber stoppers until it shuts properly.
We've also heard the Comand unit whirring at times.
We just had a new transmission valve body installed dye to a harsh 2-1 downshift when cold . Numerous software updates did not fix that but the valve body did.
CPO is as good as factory warranty.
I have the 19 inch wheel package but am "downgrading" to 18" wheels for better mileage and tire options. If you get one and are in CA I'm selling my 19"ers.

It's barely 3 years old. Why would you want something newer?

I've had zero issues with my '08 320. I bought mine out of lease because I enjoy it more than anything else I could find. I dislike the COMAND system, but I'm over it! I have an iPhone and can use the NAV on that as a backup if need be! Would have been great to have the voice command...but overall - awesome choice!

Because historically we trade often and normally only keep an SUV for about two years before we're ready to try something else; that's why.
