For a Mercedes, only two come to mind - quality sheepskins or wooden ball seat mats. IMHO anything
else would look cheap.
What are you covering up?

i have a 2011 gl450 with leather package. i only have 4k miles on it and i could already see wear in the leather (leather piping on the left side of the drivers side seat and on the right side of the passenger side. i guess its due to me rubbing on that same area everytime i get inside or get out of the car.

Do you wear jeans a lot? They are actually quite abrasive and hard on the leather.

I really don't think the leather should be showing signs of wear yet, even if you did wear jeans everyday. I would show your dealer, you might get your fronts seats redone on their dime. I would be very upset if my new cars leather was already showing breakdown!

I seriously doubt the dealer would shell money out to re-upholster the seats. I do know the wear you are talking about, though. At the L.A. Auto Show, the GL550 with beige leather was colored black due to people getting in and out of it. For leather, I recommend cleaning it with CPR Leather Care, available at Restoration Hardware. This stuff is soooo great on my S class and definitely makes the leather so nice. If cleaning it doesn't work, don't worry about wear. Every car will wear sooner or later... don't worry too much about it Enjoy the GL!

I'd be interested in a rear seat cover to protect it when we carry the dog. I've got one for our Audi A4 but it doesn't seem Mercedes makes anything for the GL. When we travel, I've been using a fitted sheet and tucking it in around the seat but it looks like crap.

be wary of anything that covers the whole seat, as they can interfere with the deployment of the thorax bag in an accident.

It might depend on the dealer. My friend has a 2007 GL450 and this summer her leather started to show wear on the driver seat and the dealer did have the seat redone for her under warranty. Might be worth it to ask, because you never know.

The leather seating surface is a cover over the seat frame - it is a factory part. So the dealer would just replace that. No traditional re-upholstering required.

I have considerable wear on my driver's seat (on the left side of the bottom cushion). I have MB Tex and the seat feels very, very stiff (in comparison to the new cars on the lot and my passenger seat). Do you think the dealer could replace that?

I always say "it never hurts to ask". My dealer seems to do just about everything I ask within reason (my friend and I use the same dealer) and I told her to ask and they did. They did just replace (redo) the bottom part or the part you sit on, they didn't touch the back or headrest. I take the "bumper-bumper" warranty seriously and if anything fails in 4 years - 50,000 miles I am going to question my SA to have it fixed.

I had the steering wheel on my 07 begin to show wear early, while in warranty. When I went in for service I simply asked "is this normal to be seeing this black wear spot on my tan steering wheel?". The SA said "no it's not, we'll order you a new steering wheel and call you when it comes in.". I probably had around 30,000 miles on it at the time.

Momsbenz, what dealer do you take your car too? Ive asked 3 dealers in my area to take a look at my seat and they all said that is normal wear and tear and is not covered by warranty... I want this problem fixed! Thanks

Wait, I just asked Keyes Mercedes in Van Nuys and they said they might need to replace it Thanks for the tip, MomsBenz!

I also let to know what seat covers are best...

I don't want to get to the stage of trying to convince a dealer it's a warranty issue.

My 3 week GL leather seat is alway showing blue-ish color from my jeans.

Mercedes 350 GL
I just bought a new 350 GL and after a few weeks the seats were turning blue from my jeans! I purchased the leather cleaner from the Mercedes dealership and wow! most amazing cleaner, everything came off in seconds. Can cost bout 25$.

About the seat covers: I bought some lambskin seat covers from superlamb auto in San Diego. (Ask for Shaun, she was helpful 800-821-4737)They have different qualities but I ended up buying a pair of their top model: ''Tailormade Original Sheepskin'' and I also got the ''sculpturing'' option. They fit like a glove! Real nice and worth every penny.
The seat covers factor in the airbags in the seat. Not only they are great for winter but they are even more amazing for the summer. I am an airline pilot and the pilot's seats actually are all covered with sheepskin covers. When I am strapped in that seat for 11 hours I don't even sweat and my back (and but) don't even get damp so I decided to get the same for my truck. I am probably going to get some for my back seat.

Hope this helps you.

I would love some seat covers too, but my only concern are the seams on the inside of the covers and their possible damage to leather?

Actually the seat cover seams are right over the ones on the seat. You have a good point...maybe best to call the company directly and ask them. You could always place a piece of fleece or anykind of soft material before laying down the seat cover. Personally I think the seams are safe, anyways can't be any worse than the seams on my jeans.

If you want colour samples, superlambauto will send you some if you want.

My 1985 Carrera has had sheepskins since new and show no sign of damage.

Silver Star Outfitters

Here's a nice selection of seat covers from Silver Star Outfitters. I have purchased from them in the past. They are great to do business with.

The side airbags are in the seat!!! Whatever you do do not put seat covers that cover the outside of the seats or in the event of a accident it could get really ugly.

Just to reinforce, Mikeee is right. From your owner's manual:

WARNING

If you wish to use seat covers, Mercedes-Benz recommends that, for safety reasons, you only use seat covers that have been approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The seat covers must have a special tear seam for sidebags. Otherwise, the sidebags cannot deploy correctly and would fail to provide the intended protection in the event of an accident. Appropriate seat covers can be obtained from a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.

I would think that anyone selling seat covers that are custom fit for the vehicle would follow these directions, but I'd be sure to ask before making a purchase.
