2008 GL320cdi
Brakes
I have a 2008 GL320 with 88K miles. It is finally time for front brake pads and rotors and rear pads. I am thinking of Rotex gold pads. What are recommendations for rotors, OEM or aftermarket?
Thanks!

Is this the first time you are replacing pads on your truck at 88000 miles?

2008 GL450 Pads (EBC Red) and Rotors (Brembo)
I recently replaced front pads and rotors at about 51,000. EBC Red pads and Brembo rotors. Less dust and about same stopping power as OEM. Only complaint at this time is with rust on centers of Brembo rotors. I will likely have to paint with black caliper paint like I did on my wife's 2007 Suburban after rust appeared on the centers of another brand's rotors shortly after I installed--looks very good now. I was surprised to see rust on the Brembo rotors--I expected more. If I had known, I would have painted rotor centers before installing. Most difficult part of installation was removing the bolt that secures rotor to the hub on both front wheels.
Good luck!

My time is also approaching for changing the front brake pads... Can the brake discs be resurfaced ? ...and when the brake light goes off, how many miles can i drive still?

Rotor Resurfacing
Yes you can turn the rotors, but most likely if the pads need to be replaced the rotors need to be replaced because they are below or near the minimum recommended thickness. You will need to measure the thickness to see if enough material will be left after they are turned to meet the minimum spec. I do not recall the spec. for the minimum thickness, however, I remember seeing this information in a past post on this forum.
I measured my rotors before replacing them and they exceeded by a small amount the minimum thickness spec. I performed the measurement just to satisfy my curiosity. I planned on replacing the rotors in any case because I was not going to pull the wheels and calipers off again to replace the rotors within a short time--I do not have the time to do so.
Regards

And, it's noted in the factory procedures.
Anybody trying to do brake work without referring to them is foolish.

Just turned mine. The fronts have a minimum of 30mm, service limit is 29.5mm. I don't remember what the backs were but they were not anywhere near the limits. After mine were turned, they were at 31mm. The guy at O'reilly's that turned mine said that the fronts were the biggest that would fit on his machine
I just used the Best Brake pads that O'Reilly had. I think the fronts were a little over $100 and the rears were around $80.
