Hi there.
I have the star computer , is there a way to unlock the navigation so it could be used whle driving with the mb stat?

Excuse my naivete but, not sure what the star computer is - been on this site for nearly 4 years first I've heard of this... The nav on my COMAND 2008 GL works just fine while driving - pretty sure they all do? You did not say what year your GL is?

It may be that in the newest GLs the NAV system won't let you input new destination info, POIs, route changes etc while moving. SHOULD you be driving while distracted by trying to input data into the frustrating non intuitive and klutzy COMAND system - NO; do you want / need to do this - YES!!!

Maybe the driver shouldn't be using the nav but the co-pilot sure should be able to.

I have 2011 GL. Navigation works while driving.

Not if the co pilot is my wife!! And it's a darn good thing she doesn't look at this forum!!

My wife is also navigational and electronically disabled so I know where you are coming from.

BTW, saw in your profile that you have one of those V-10 VW's. Those things are a trip to drive. It's really to bad that they didn't keep making those in the VW.

It's my daily driver. I really like the way I can lower it on command to get in and out. Also, the maneuverability is exceptional, the turn radius is MUCH better than the GL. And with the V10 the car really pops up to speed. Lots better off road because I can manually lock/unlock the rear and center differential. Its pretty close to the G Wagon that way for a LOT less bucks!
Disadvantage: I give away a LOT of mpgs and range.

i test drove used 2010 GLK350 and was able to enter destination while moving. bought another GLK 2010 and had total map system update... but now can only put in destination if stopped! idiotic like toyota... get off superhighway every time you need a course change? there must be some override....help!

I can use the voice recognition for the navi while driving on my 2012 C350 but I can't use the dial unless I'm in P mode.

2008 Nave can do almost anything but enter a new destination from a map location while moving.
POIs, Addresses, and stored destinations work, just not scrolling to a spot on the map.

I traded my Accord Coupe for a GLK350 and should have done a more thorough pre sale test- not being able to key in an address while driving is idiotic- I can't get voice command to even recognize a city- nave to pull over off superhighway just to set destination... that and braking on downhill with speed control makes me second guess my MB purchase!

HELP- constantly fighting with vocal MB COMAND while driving it rarely finds correct street or POI - but usually does with hand control - - - CoPilot could help IF hand control was usable while in motion - HOW TO ENABLE COMAND manual control while in motion HELP CAN'T GET OFF HIGHWAY EVERY TIME I NEED ADJUSTMENT TO NAV SYSTEM _ IDIOTIC SETUP

You cannot do this! The guru's at Mercedes decided your 'safety' is more important than your being able to get there! It is an incredibly stupid piece of design work.
The best solution is to get an aftermarket nav system and have it installed.

If you have an '08 like mine, the only thing you can't do is set it from the map (point to a location).


All other methods work fine moving.
