Extended warranty

Hello guys,

I know this topic has been discussed so many times, but I just want you guys to pinpoint me that where I need to be reached at.

My wife 2007 GL550's warranty just expired July of this year and want to get extended warranty.

Would you advice me where I should be calling? I want total coverages with reasonable price.

Thanks

you should have purchased warranty before it expired, you can still get it but the price would be higher. My 07, GL450 covered by Universal warranty corporation and i paid close to 4k at 35k miles. HTH

Got 3/36 from EasyCare for their "TotalCare" package.
About $3k. Been happy with them so far: Changed both Air struts in the front and a heat exchanger valve: The warranty paid for itself already.
$250.00 deductible.

A good warranty will pay for itself easily on a GL. If you email me the VIN# and current odometer reading to brucem105@comcast.net, I can send you detailed info and a quote.

It will cover just about everything on and in the car including COMAND nav, airmatic, even seat heaters and parking sensors. I have plenty of MB, BMW, Audi, and other clients with this warranty and everyone is happy. I can even provide references from MBWorld members.

Thanks.

Is an extended warrany better to buy when the vehicle is new or when the vehicle nears the end of the Mercedes warranty? Does an extended warranty cover maintinance service or the vehicle entended warranty excluding maintinance and service?
What is the best warranty for me? I will take delivery of a 2012 GL350 in 3 weeks. I plan on keeping this vehicle for approximately 8 years since I near retirement in 4 years and in the past I normally purchased a new car every 3 years. This will be my first Mercedes and knowing the cost of repairs and service I want to enter a lenghty ownership with some piece of mind. Please let me know what you think is the best warranty and best time to purchase extended warranty.
Thanks

I am an independent dealer, and it is a 3rd party warranty, not an MB one. It is a Tier I company, been around over 25 years, US insured, A+ BBB rating, etc. I have hundreds of MB customers with them including some right here on MB World, and everyone is happy. I can provide plenty of references.

There is a $100 per visit deductible (meaning if you get three things fixed in a single visit you only pay $100).

There's no answer that is correct. It depends on the car, how many miles you have as you near the end of your warranty, the car's claims history and therefore its risk rating to the warranty company, etc.

Routine maintenance and service is not covered by an extended warranty. This is mechanical, electrical, and seals/gaskets breakdown insurance.

If you get me your VIN# to brucem105@comcast.net, I can get you quotes so you can see how much it will cost to extend it to the time/mileage you want. Then I can guess (only a guess) how much it might be to wait and do it at a later date with a shorter warranty to end up in the same place.

The warranty companies are not dumb, though, they know their risk is lowest when car is youngest and has factory warranty remaining. So they price it most aggressively now, as opposed to 4 years from now when you have 40K miles.

For example (these are just numbers I am making up out of thin air), buying a warranty on your new car, when it has zero miles and full factory warranty remaining, might be $4500 to get you to 2019. Waiting four years, when the car has 40K miles, and then buying a four year warranty to get you to the same 2019 expiration, might cost $5000. Or something like that.

Is the warranty transferable or refundable if you don't keep the car the full warranty term?

I also have the 'totalcare' package from easycare. I got a 5/100,000 at time of purchase of the vehicle for $2500.00. I think the deductible is $100, but it may be $200. I've replaced air shocks and COMAND on my 2007 under total care. I'm ahead on the warranty, but not by too much if you consider the time value of money.

I would expect the price to be best at purchase. The warranty company knows that you will pay now, but won't have a claim until the MB warranty expires, which will be a few years. Time value of money.

No, of course not. They are giving that $2500 price because:

1. They are really only offering a one year extended warranty. If you buy a 5 year warranty when the car is new, and the car has a 4 year factory warranty, then the 5 year gives you a one year extension. So you're paying $2500 for a one year exclusionary extended warranty, which is not a bad deal at all.

2. They know they will not see a claim until after the 4 year warranty expires, so they can invest the premium they receive and earn returns for 4 years until they possibly have to pay out a claim from the reserves. That's how insurance works.

Yes, you can get a pro-rated refund if you cancel early.

In my case the warranty was 3 years, so it was a 2 year/50,000 mile extension. Since I'm high mileage driver (my 2007 has 93K on it now) I was more focused on mileage vs years. I will hit 100,000 miles by the end of the year, my warranty expires on time in August of 2012.

You could go to www.easycare.com and call them and see what price you can get. You could also contact your dealer and see what they are offering. You could also contact Beck Imports - seems like he has something to offer.

I highly doubt you'd get the $2500 deal now for a 2 year/50,000 mile extension. Even at a small 5% annual return on the investment my $2500 would be worth over $3000 now.

Be sure to check on coverage (many times COMAND, etc isn't covered) to get an apples to apples quote.

My Ext Warranty just expired. At about 96,000 miles Easycare called and offered me a 2 year, 24,000 mile extension with a $500 deductible for $5010.

First I'm not planning on keeping my GL too much longer - 1 year at the most. Second, I couldn't figure out any way that that would ever return on my investment if I did keep it 2 years.
