Steering wheel gearshift buttons

Hi, In the owners manual it states that each button has two movements -

Inner - to restrict the shift range for the manual gearshift program : to downshift

Outer - to extend the shift range for the manual gearshift program : to upshift

My buttons only have one movement not two, is this an error in the manual?

Thanks

Don't know what model year you have but my 2011 has levers instead of buttons. The right one upshifts and the left downshifts. I had a R500 that had buttons that each had two positions (rocker type buttons). My wife had a ML350 that had buttons working exactly the way you describe, one position each button.

I wasn't aware of a 2006 GL model. In the US (where the SUV is manufactured) the GL was sold from '07 model year and beyond. Are you outside the USA?

Care to take a picture and post it here so we know exactly what you're trying to say/describe?

My 07 has 2 black shifter buttons. Left one is downshift and if pressed, activates the manual mode of the vehicle. Right one is upshift and if pressed all the way until you get past 6th gear, gets you out of manual mode and back into automatic mode.

Okay soooo....

your GL only has "one movement"? Are you saying you can only downshift or upshift on 1 button only? Not sure if I'm getting you.

Yeah. If you could take of your steering column with the back of the steering wheel, it would more helpful I assume.

Your manual looks pretty normal to me.

Edit: Hmm that's a little strange. I'm looking at your image again and there's apparently 2 ways to push one of the buttons... Well I'm headed somewhere very briefly so I'll be right back.

I'll report if I can test that successfully or not.

Hi, I've got one on the left to shift down and one on the right to shift up. The book seems to suggest that both buttons should have a two way toggle switch. Seems like an error in the book to me.

Back. Anyway, I was not able to push those buttons down by the "insides" as according to your manual.

Not sure if I have ever heard of that before. That's my brief report.

Hm..unfamiliar with this as the older model GLs here in the States equipped with buttons (not downshift/upshift levers) only had buttons, not this rocker feature. As N_Jay stated, is this an option?

My 2007 GL works just like it is described in manual above. There are two buttons on the steering wheel. One on the left one on the right. Each button has two functions. When i push on the side closest to the steering column it shifts down. When i push on the side furthest from the steering column it shifts up.

Weird, so both buttons on L & R do the same thing, so you can effectively change up/down with one hand?

Speaking of the shift paddles on my '11, I recently found out that if you hold down the downshift paddle, it will automatically find the correct gear for acceleration or deceleration. So it will downshift more than one gear for you in a controlled effort. Kinda neat.

Yes exactly. It is just like a rocker switch on a older cars window. Push one side for up push the other for down.

Can't be bothered with them anyway, just place in Drive and Cruise.
