2008 GL450 hard to steer at slow speed after engine warms up
So, my title pretty well sums it up. I have a GL450 that steed just fine after it has sat for a few hours and is then started up and driven. Drive for 15-20 and then low speed steering is very hard - like parking lot maneuvering. fluid fine, though does leak a small amount and I am guessing is it pump reservoir seal issue. But why would it only do this after engine temp is warm? Anyone know a fix?

Hard steering is usually a factor of low fluid, contaminated fluid, fluid blockage, or a bad pump. I am betting you have a bad pump.

Replacing the pump is an easy DIY. And a replacement pump is inexpensive - search eBay.

most likely your speed sensitive steering solenoid (sps) is dead. it needs to be confirmed with star/ das and replaced. they fail fairly often

Gl450 Power Steering Pump removal
I get all of this, but did not make sense to me that pump is bad if it only has the issue after system warms up

Thanks, I will check on this. Fortunate to have access to a computer (best friend has a german repair shop)

i had almost exact same problem.
I changed solenoid and everything is working properly now Wiring problem on the solenoid couse fault signal . I Was measuring the signal with OBD 2.
