Gears lost Luckily it happened to my wife ....

Hi,
I have a 2009 GL 500. It has only 50 000 miles on clock. Any way, She was driving normally in the city and suddenly she lost gear. She rolled the car to side of the road and called me to check it out. So in the instrument cluster was message that ABS and ETC ( or what ever it name is) are inoperative. When try to shift it goes to park, drive and reverse but nothing happens. You can hear that when shifting something moves but nothing, nothing happens. All liquids are inside the trans and engine. I can get in to star diagnostic system tomorrow so now all quesses are welcome. Thanks.

Br,

Jyrki

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Vehicle speed sensor on the valve body maybe, but that should have given you limp home mode in 1st gear. let us know what you find!

Hi,
Did You change speed sensors to every wheel or some other speed sensor? There is a one speed sensor in gear box and that is one, that dealer must change.
We havenīt solve this problem yet. We got also code as low voltage in secondary battery, so we start with change it.

the vgs on the gearbox valve sensor - if that is what you stored or current Fault code says. There are some non-dealer workarounds that involve shipping your valve body to a third party for coding. Otherwise you’re stuck with the dealer -$$$$$

Hi,

Today we dropped the oil pan and we found metal glitters in oil. Oil filter was quite shiny when looked inside. So there must be more damage than just some valve or similar.
Put putted the pan back and now itīs changing garage to one that is specialized to trans. Now itīs good time to make some guesses what will be found . Transmission is in 2008 GL 500 with 50 000 mil in clock.

Now the gear box is opened. Oil pump was broken and left hard markīs to torque converter too. Needs total repair.
