Mercedes-Benz X164 Airmatic Suspension compressor

I doubt the compressor is capable of making the system throw codes, short of simply not pumping correctly. It has just two circuits, one power for the pump and the other the vent valve. All the system does is send voltage. It may monitor the current flow, like it does with various bulbs. But that seems to be a stretch, though I try to never underestimate MB's stretching capability.
To the OP: Whatever you install, I would make sure you get one of the OEM manufacturer pumps, that is, AMK (for the x164 at least). We don't have a lot of data points, but at least: no confirmation of a Chinesium pump lasting, confirmation of Chinesium pumps failing ridiculously early, and OEM pumps lasting ridiculous lengths of time. If you get an Arnott pump and it is Chinesium, I would recommend also getting a generic Chinese one to have as a backup while you wait for the replacements from Arnott to arrive.

Arnott used to put their sticker on the A1991 but then they transitioned to Chinese pumps. I installed one; didn't last 20k miles. "single use" lol is not far off the mark
partscontainer also sells the old Arnott, but they shipped me the new one instead, and when I complained they just argued argued argued. However, it was no problem shipping it back, and they shipped me the apparently genuine A1991 no problem.

But... I think it's sort of a moot point, isn't it? If the same (quality) brand is the same price regardless of platform, wouldn't you just buy the one for the X164?

Of course, if you find a x166 AMK pump for $200 less, why not try it? Just make damn sure you get shipped a real AMK, without the precious Made in China sticker on it.
You've gotten a lot of replies because we love discussing Airmatic here. Ain't that right, fellas?
Seriously, it's a fun system to play with when you get it under control. I think I even mentioned changing brackets because there appears to be one pump, many different mounting configurations.
P.S. My two Bilstein rear air springs showed up from Rock Auto. Sure 'nuff, they're marked 13.5 bar. Plan is, I'll check the rear Arnotts for leaks, and when they start throwing stoner spit, I'll pull, swap in the Bilsteins, and sell the new Arnotts I receive in return.
