I desperately needed this car and couldn't wait for the March delivery. This car is very desirable in my area and you can't pick one off the floor. Hence my reaction to buy the first one that was available when somebody changed his mind when the car came in. This one is very basic (No entertainment system, no Pre-wiring) and my question is: Can I still get aftermarket DVD entertainment installation without side effects or concern? Or even just the IPAD docking station (Charging feature)? Thanks

Look - most moderno families are going to iPad's and mounts - and don't get married to the MB mounts since there are very credible mounts from other manufacturers around - iPad charges can be plugged into 12v without headaches... no big worry not having integrated DVD players any more at all..

If you found a GL550 "on the floor" you are very fortunate - real short inventory - places like autotrader and cars.com show overinflated inventories since pre-sold units come in, and are posted as inventory although they are presold... we are talking real scarcity of GL550's nationwide... pull the trigger and adjust would be my advice... hell-of-a-machine, Motor Trend be dam*ed on their opinion of the GL550 it's a beast on the street...

I'll be interested in hearing what you end up doing for your rear entertainment. I also will be doing something in the back with tablets.

I do have the RSE pre-wiring. Does anyone know of a good answer to put in some mounts and how to connect into the pre-wiring for charging?

MB's iPad docking station w/charging is $400 each + installation into the pre-wiring - not a pretty picture.

Add to that iPad - like iPhones - can/will change to another format/connection sometime in the near future.

My recommendation is to buy a couple of extra cig-USB plug-in chargers ($6 each) and extra charging cables and have them in the car.

The best "combo" is matching a head rest mount like SlipGrip headrest mount that is made to fit a iPad that has a Otter/Griffin/Ballistic/Gumdrop case ... not too may Little Ones should be handling a naked iPad without a case>>

If you have a 110 v plug in in the back yes you can , then it will be pre wired for the ipad rear .

have done remote starts in these and iPad and headrest video...

prewire not a concern. if using ipads or video system, the $6 usb adapter won't work seeing they are not the 2.1 amp charger... I will post a pick later of the ipad and the DVD system

i know my dealer installed MB portable rse on my brothers 450 which did not have prewiring and it looks good- only thing's is that it sits a little lower on the seat back..
