Hold feature and park assist
for those who have done this successfully, How do you activate the hold feature! i slow done, brake, then depress it further as all the videos and manual says- but nothing, no hold icon shows up? does it need to be activated?
also for the park assist- the P shows up, i pass the front car- indicate, place in reverse- no arrow next to P, should i be indicating first or does it need a setting to activate it?
thanks !

just read- apparently the spot should ideally be free of any debris etc. and snow makes it difficult to measure the spot
AND if you have a tailer hitch, the system needs more space to be able to activate.
still dont know how to actually activate it through control menu.
will let you know i figure it out...
but the hold feature is really getting to me, i'd really like to know how that works. trust me with the weather and traffic - its something i'd really like to use..

Hold feature tends to work for me. I brake to a stop and then depress the brake harder. If it doesn't take a lift up slightly again (so the brake is still on!) and depress again. Seems to work most times at least on the second try.

Okay - just went out and checked it on my driveway.
In Drive I depressed the brake, lifted up a bit and pumped it again quickly - it comes on immediately, right at the top of the brake pedal travel - you'll feel it immediately and it's a hard brake pedal feel (and the HOLD sign comes on).

And that reminded me of an annoying feature. I don't know if anyone ever opens their door to check where they are when parking - I do sometimes at the top of my driveway when in the snow. Anyway, when you do this it automatically shifts into Park I believe. Took me a while to figure out why I wasn't going anywhere as I tried to back up a little.
I guess it's safe though ?

It can be easier to review pdf copy of the Owners Manual downloaded and saved from mbusa.com under the Owners Support section - while in that section also take advantage of free registration for Mercedes Owners Online with your email address and VIN# so in the case of future MB bulletins/updates for your GL Mercedes can email you as ready, rather than waiting to receive bulk snail mail notices which can be sent out 6-8 weeks later.
To be of some help
1) Mirrors - you can set/reset parking/reverse position for the passenger mirror - see manual page 16.There are also some non-MB stickon convex mirror add-on's that are cheap to add/pull off depending on season.
2) Rearview camera - become familiar with the marking given you by the rear view camera page 222 on... shame in this situation for ML's 360 camera hasn't been out there yet.
Just trying to be helpful... sorry about your snow, because in other areas than mine that brings salt..

Sorry - that was just to get it into the HOLD function (I don't have the park assist). It's actually more of a tap of the brake pedal than a pump. Then the pedal goes hard and HOLD shows at the top in the middle of the instrument panel (where the distance control normally shows).

Yeah - I just have it as a standard feature. If I'm in Drive, and stop by pressing the brake pedal - then try just letting up maybe a bit more and tapping it down quickly again. Worked for me last night at least. I don't have the park brake on at the time.

For me I just brake normally to a stop, then push a little harder once 100% stopped and it activates. I have this feature on my w212 and it did take a few weeks to really get used to it, but now I activate it without thinking. Really glad both our cars have it now.
The park assist is bit hit or miss for me too with the arrow showing up. Didn't realize it requires more space if you have the hitch?

Brake to a full stop like any normal car then give it a quick pump, doesn't have too hard (let up then quick but short pump). It becomes second nature after a while, scary when you do it in a friends car that doesn't have HOLD and don't realize until you're half-way into the intersection
Park Assist, slow down, drive past the spot you plan to parallel park you should start seeing the arrow then once you've passed and in the position where you hit reverse it should give you the option to hit OK to activate PA, from there follow the prompts.

If you really need to drive with the door open...

finally--- turns out for active park assist, you 'really' do need 2 cars or objects to get the system to recognize a spot- just drive by a parallel park street- that arrows lights up the entire time- as long as there is a spot available- i like this feature.
i honestly am not aware of any 7 seater in the market today that self parallel parks- i dont even think the tesla model x does that..
